  • Citizenship: Must be a citizen of India.
  • Educational Qualification: Candidates must possess ONE of the following:
    • M.E./M.Tech. in the specific engineering discipline relevant to the post code (e.g., Geology/Applied Geology, Mineral Engg., Chemical Engg., Metallurgical Engg., Materials Science & Engg., Mechanical Engg.). OR
    • Ph.D. submitted in the specific engineering/science discipline relevant to the post code. 
  • Age Limit: The upper age limit is 32 years as of May 8, 2025.
  • Age Relaxation: Applicable as per Government of India/CSIR rules:
    • SC/ST: 5 years 
    • OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 3 years 
    • Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD): 10 years (15 years for SC/ST, 13 years for OBC). Relaxation is applicable even if the post isn’t reserved, provided it’s identified as suitable.
    • Departmental Candidates (CSIR employees with 3 years continuous service in the same/allied cadre): 5 years (Total 10 years for SC/ST, 8 years for OBC).
    • Widows, Divorced Women, Judicially Separated Women (not remarried): Up to 35 years (40 years for SC/ST). (Note: SC/ST/OBC candidates applying against Unreserved posts are not eligible for age relaxation but may get fee exemption if applicable).

Salary & Benefits of CSIR NML Scientist

Selected candidates for the Scientist position will be placed in Pay Level-11 of the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC) pay matrix.

  • Pay Scale: Rs. 67,700 – Rs. 2,08,700.
  • Approximate Total Emoluments: Rs. 1,22,629/- per month (at the minimum of the Pay Level, including DA, HRA, TA in a Class ‘Y’ city).
  • Allowances: Includes Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Transport Allowance (TA) as applicable to Central Government employees/CSIR employees.
  • Other Benefits: Reimbursement of Medical Expenses, Leave Travel Concession (LTC), Children’s Education Allowance, etc., as per CSIR/Gol rules.
  • Accommodation: Entitlement to residential accommodation as per CSIR rules, subject to availability (HRA not applicable if accommodation is provided).

Selection Process of Scientist by CSIR NML

The selection process for the CSIR NML Scientist posts involves the following stages:

  1. Shortlisting: Applications will be screened based on criteria set by a Screening Committee. Mere fulfillment of essential qualifications does not guarantee an interview call. Shortlisting criteria may include:
    • Higher educational qualifications.
    • Desirable qualifications/experience.
