Eligibility Criteria for DRDO GTRE Apprenticeship

Candidates must carefully review the eligibility criteria before applying:

  • Nationality: Indian.
  • Age Limit: Minimum 18 years and Maximum 27 years as of May 8, 2025. Upper age limit relaxation is applicable for SC/ST/OBC/PWD candidates as per Government of India rules.
  • Educational Qualifications:
    • Graduate Apprentice (Engineering): A degree (B.E./B.Tech./Equivalent) in the relevant engineering disciplines from a statutory University or an institution empowered to award such degrees by an Act of Parliament. Candidates must have passed the qualifying examination in 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, or 2025 as regular candidates. Those who passed earlier than 2021 are not eligible.
    • Graduate Apprentice (Non-Engineering): A degree (B.Com./B.Sc./B.A./BCA/BBA) from a statutory University, an institution empowered to award such degrees by an Act of Parliament, or recognized institutes. Candidates must have passed the qualifying examination in 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, or 2025 as regular candidates. Those who passed earlier than 2021 are not eligible.
    • Diploma Apprentice: A diploma in the relevant engineering disciplines granted by a State Council or Board of Technical Education, a University, or a recognized institute. Sandwich course students undergoing training for a diploma are also eligible. Candidates must have passed the qualifying examination in 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, or 2025 as regular candidates. Those who passed earlier than 2021 are not eligible.
    • ITI Apprentice: A certificate in the relevant vocational trade involving two years of study after the secondary stage, recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education (NCVT or SCVT Boards). Sandwich course students eligible for such a certificate can also apply.
  • Important Exclusions:
    • Candidates whose final results are not declared/available at the time of application are NOT eligible (though provisional certificates are acceptable at joining).
    • Candidates with higher qualifications than prescribed are NOT eligible.
    • Candidates who have already undergone or are currently undergoing apprenticeship training elsewhere are NOT eligible.
    • Candidates with more than one year of work experience are NOT eligible.

Salary & Benefits (Monthly Stipend)

Selected apprentices will receive a monthly stipend as per Government of India rules:

  • Graduate Apprentice (B.E./B.Tech./Equivalent): ₹9,000/- per month.
  • Graduate Apprentice (B.Com./B.Sc./B.A./BCA/BBA): ₹9,000/- per month.
  • Diploma Apprentice: ₹8,000/- per month.
  • ITI Apprentice: ₹7,000/- per month.

Note: No TA/DA will be paid for the selection process (interview/document verification) or joining. GTRE will not provide any hostel or accommodation facilities during the training period.

Selection Process

The selection process for all categories (Graduate Engg., Graduate Non-Engg., Diploma, ITI) involves the following steps:

  1. Shortlisting: Candidates will be shortlisted based on their academic merit (marks/percentage/CGPA obtained in the qualifying examination). CGPA should be converted to percentage as per university norms.
  2. Document Verification: Shortlisted candidates will be called for document verification. They must produce original certificates and one set of self-attested photocopies.
  3. Medical Fitness: Final selection is subject to meeting the medical fitness standards as per the Apprentices Act. Candidates need to produce a Medical Fitness Certificate from an authorized Government Medical Officer (excluding ESIC hospitals) in the prescribed format at the time of joining.
