Eligibility Criteria: Do You Qualify?

Candidates must fulfill the following eligibility conditions to apply for the Indian Army RVC SSC entry:

  • Educational Qualification:
    • Must possess a BVSc/BVSc & AH degree from a recognized Indian university OR an equivalent foreign degree.
    • The qualification must be recognized under the first or second schedule of the Indian Veterinary Council Act, 1984.
    • Crucially, candidates MUST have passed the qualifying examination along with the mandatory internship at the time of submitting the application. Those awaiting final results or internship completion are not eligible to apply.
  • Age Limit:
    • Candidates must be between 21 and 32 years of age as of the last date of application submission, which is May 26, 2025.
  • Nationality:
    • Must be a Citizen of India, OR
    • A subject of Nepal, OR
    • A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, or specified East African countries (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia) and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India. (Note: Candidates in the latter two categories require a certificate of eligibility issued by the Govt. of India, except Gorkha subjects of Nepal).
  • Physical & Medical Standards: Candidates must meet the medical standards prescribed for commission in the Army. Details will be assessed during the medical examination phase. Pregnancy at any stage after SSB selection or during training will debar female candidates from the grant of commission.

Selection Process: Path to Commission

The selection procedure involves multiple stages:

  1. Initial Screening: Applications will be scrutinized at the Directorate General Remount Veterinary Services (DGRVS) to verify eligibility and document correctness. Common reasons for rejection include incomplete applications, variations in names without affidavits, missing certificates, unsigned declarations, etc..
  2. SSB Interview: Candidates whose applications are found valid will be called for the Services Selection Board (SSB) interview. The SSB assesses personality, intelligence, and compatibility for a commission in the armed forces. Candidates can avail a maximum of six chances for SSB interviews.
  3. Medical Examination: Candidates recommended by the SSB undergo a detailed medical examination conducted by a military medical board. Special provisions, including a lady medical officer, are made for female candidates. Candidates declared unfit can appeal for an Appeal Medical Board (AMB) within 42 days.
  4. Merit List: A final merit list is prepared based only on the marks obtained in the SSB interview for medically fit candidates. Higher educational qualifications or previous achievements do not influence the merit ranking. Qualifying the SSB does not guarantee final selection.

Training: Selected candidates will undergo post-commission training at the RVC Centre & College, Meerut Cantt. Registration with the Veterinary Council of India/State Veterinary Council is mandatory before training commences.

How to Apply: Offline Application Procedure

Applications for the Indian Army RVC SSC must be submitted offline. Follow these steps carefully:

  1. Prepare the application on plain paper (size 21 cm x 36 cm), neatly typed as per the format provided in the official advertisement/notification. Ensure all columns are filled in BLOCK LETTERS.
  2. Affix a self-attested recent passport-size photograph on the designated space.
  3. Attach self-attested copies of the following documents:
    • Original/Provisional BVSc/BVSc & AH degree certificate along with final marksheets.
    • MVSc/PhD degree certificate (if applicable) with marksheets.
    • Internship Completion Certificate.
    • Matriculation Certificate (as proof of date of birth).
    • Certificates for NCC, sports, or extracurricular activities (if any).
    • NOC from the current employer (if applicable).
    • Affidavit (if there’s any variation in name).
    • Two self-addressed stamped envelopes.
    • Certificate from Principal/Dean if original/provisional degree is not yet awarded, confirming completion and eligibility for award.
  4. Ensure the application and enclosures are properly tagged. Sign the declaration on the application form.
  5. Place the completed application form and all enclosures in an envelope.
  6. Superscribe the envelope in RED INK with: “Application for Short Service Commission in RVC”.
