Madras High Court Recruitment 2025: Apply Online for 240 Chobdar, Office Assistant, Residential Assistant & Room Boy Posts

Introduction

The High Court of Madras has announced a recruitment drive (Notification No. 72/2025) inviting online applications for various posts including Chobdar, Office Assistant, Residential Assistant, and Room Boy within the Madras High Court Service. A total of 240 vacancies are available across these positions. Eligible candidates can apply online through the official Madras High Court website from April 6, 2025, until the deadline on May 5, 2025.

  • Location: Selected candidates will be posted either at the Principal seat at Madras, the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court, Madurai, the Tamil Nadu State Judicial Academy (TNSJA) in Chennai, or the Regional Centres of TNSJA in Coimbatore or Madurai. Candidates are liable to be transferred.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Educational Qualification:
    • Must have passed VIII Standard or its equivalent.
    • The maximum educational qualification allowed is XII Standard or its equivalent as of the notification date. Candidates must provide an undertaking confirming they do not possess qualifications higher than Higher Secondary. Suppressing higher educational qualifications will lead to action.
    • Preference for Office Assistant: Preference will be given to candidates with a valid LMV driving license, cooking experience, and house-keeping experience.
    • Preference for Residential Assistant: Preference will be given to candidates with: (i) a one-year craft course in Housekeeping/Food and Beverage/Cooking/Bakery from a recognized institute with two years of relevant work experience and fluency in Tamil and English, and (ii) a valid LMV Driving License.
  • Age Limit (as on 01.07.2025):
    • Minimum Age: 18 years (Should not have been born after 01.07.2007).
    • Maximum Age:
      • SC/SC(A)/ST/MBC&DC/BC/BCM & Destitute Widows: 37 years (Should not have been born before 02.07.1988).
      • Others/Unreserved: 32 years (Should not have been born before 02.07.1993).
      • In-Service Candidates (Full-time members/probationers of Madras High Court Service or Tamil Nadu State Judicial Ministerial Service): 47 years (Should not have been born before 02.07.1978).
    • Age relaxation is applicable for Differently Abled Persons (up to 10 years), discharged/serving temporary Government employees, and Ex-Servicemen as per rules.
  • Note: Candidates from states other than Tamil Nadu/Puducherry will be treated as ‘Unreserved Category’.

Salary & Benefits

Selected candidates will be placed in Pay Level 1 with a pay scale of Rs. 15,700 – 58,100, plus Special Compensatory Allowance. Other allowances and perks will be as per government norms.

Selection Process

The selection process involves the following stages:

  1. Common Written Examination (65 Marks):
    • Objective type questions (65 questions, 1 mark each, no negative marking).
    • Duration: 90 minutes.
    • Part-A: Tamil Eligibility Test (or General English for eligible PH candidates) – 25 Marks (Minimum Qualifying Marks: 10). Marks are qualifying only.
    • Part-B: Basic Knowledge (General knowledge, current affairs, basic arithmetic, house-keeping, hygiene, food service, office maintenance etc.) – 40 Marks (Minimum Qualifying Marks: 10). Marks considered for shortlisting.
    • Syllabus based on 8th standard level.
    • Candidates will be shortlisted for the Skill Test based on Part-B marks in a ratio (e.g., 1:4 or 1:5 depending on vacancies) following reservation rules.
  2. Skill Test (40 Marks):
    • Minimum Qualifying Marks: 10.
    • Tests practical skills relevant to the specific post (e.g., office maintenance, cooking, housekeeping, sanitation).
    • Additional marks awarded for valid LMV license and relevant experience certificates for Office Assistant and Residential Assistant posts.
    • Candidates shortlisted for Certificate Verification based on Skill Test marks in a ratio (e.g., 1:2 or 1:3) following reservation rules.
  3. Certificate Verification:
    • Verification of original documents.
    • Weightage marks (up to 20) for NMRs/persons with similar work experience.
  • Final Selection: Based on combined marks in Part-B of the Written Exam, Skill Test, and Certificate Verification (including weightage), following merit and reservation rules.

  3. Register basic particulars.
  4. Proceed to fill the online application form for the desired post(s). Use only a Desktop or Laptop.
  5. Upload necessary documents/certificates when requested (within 72 hours). Failure leads to rejection.
  6. Pay the application fee online (if applicable).
  7. Verify all details carefully before final submission, as applications cannot be edited later.
  8. Submit the application form before the last date (05.05.2025).
  9. Keep a copy of the submitted application for future reference.

Application Fees

  • BC, BCM, MBC&DC, Others/UR: Rs. 500/- (Irrespective of the number of posts applied).
  • SC, SC(A), ST: Total Exemption.
  • Persons with benchmark disabilities (40% or above) & Destitute Widows of all castes: Total Exemption.
  • Fees must be paid online by 06.05.2025. Fees once paid are non-refundable.
