Salary / Pay Scale for for Officers Selected Through UPSC CDS

The UPSC CDS offers a handsome salary package that’s commensurate with the responsibilities and duties of the role. As per the 7th Pay Matrix, the pay level for the posts is Level 10, which translates to a salary range of ₹ 56,100 to ₹ 1,77,500. This is in addition to the Grade Pay of ₹ 5400 in the old Pay Band of ₹ 15600-39100.

Eligibility Criteria / Educational Qualification for UPSC Combined Defence Services (CDS)

The educational qualifications required vary depending on the service academy. For the Indian Military Academy and Officers’ Training Academy, Chennai, a Degree from a recognized University or equivalent is necessary. For the Indian Naval Academy, a Degree in Engineering from a recognized University or Institution is required. For the Air Force Academy, candidates need a Degree from a recognized University (with Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level) or a Bachelor of Engineering.

Selection Process of Officers in Indian Armed Forces Through UPSC CDS

The selection process for the UPSC CDS 2023 examination is through a written exam followed by the Services Selection Board (SSB) interview.

The SSB interview tests the overall personality of the candidates including leadership traits, social behavior, mental and physical robustness, and ability to handle stressful situations.

Application Fees for UPSC CDS

The application fee for the UPSC CDS 2023 examination is Rs. 200 for general category male candidates. However, female candidates, as well as candidates from SC, ST categories, and persons with benchmark disabilities are exempted from payment of the fee.

The fee can be paid by remitting the money in any branch of SBI by cash, or by using Visa/Master/Rupay Credit/Debit Card, UPI Payment or by using the internet banking facility of any bank.
