Eligibility Criteria for IIT Bombay Recruitment 2025

Applicants must ensure they possess the essential qualifications and experience for the post they are applying for. Qualification degrees must be from a recognized University/Institute. 

Jr. Administrative Assistant

  • Educational Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in Arts, Commerce, Management, Legal stream, and Science (Other than Technology & Engineering) subjects. 
  • Age Limit: 27 years as on the application closing date (13.06.2025), with applicable age relaxations. 

Jr. Engineer (Civil)

  • Educational Qualification & Experience:
    • B.Tech./B.E. or equivalent degree in Civil Engineering with relevant experience of one year after the degree. OR
    • Applications with an integrated M.Tech./M.E. in Civil Engineering will also be eligible. OR
    • 3-year Diploma in Civil Engineering with six years of relevant experience after the diploma. (Note: If the diploma pre-requisite is 10+2, required experience will be reduced by two years ).

Jr. Engineer (Electrical & Electronics)

Jr. Trained Graduate Teacher (Marathi) (for IIT Campus School & Jr. College)

  • Educational Qualification & Experience:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Marathi from a recognized University with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate & B.Ed. from a recognised University. AND
    • Pass in the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) / Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test (MTET). AND
    • A teaching experience of three years after the qualifying degree with competence in Hindi / English. 
    • For applicants with a Master’s degree or equivalent, the normal duration of the Master’s programme would be counted towards experience. 
  • Age Limit: 32 years as on the application closing date (13.06.2025), with applicable age relaxations. 

Primary Teacher (Grade I) – English (Backlog Vacancy for IIT Campus School & Jr. College)

  • Educational Qualification & Experience:
    • Senior Secondary (10+2 or equivalent) from a recognized board with at least 50% marks, with:
      • (i) 2-year Diploma in Education (D.Ed) or equivalent in accordance with the NCTE Regulations or Diploma in Special Education. 
      • (ii) Pass in the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) conducted by CBSE or STET conducted by the State Board in accordance with the NCTE guidelines. AND
      • (iii) Teaching experience of five years (relaxable by the normal duration of degree up to three years for applicants with a Graduate degree) after passing (10+2) with the competence to teach in Hindi/ English. 
    • OR
    • (i) 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.) degree or equivalent from a recognized institution. AND
    • (ii) Teaching experience of three years after passing the degree with the competence to teach in Hindi/ English.

Age Relaxation: Age relaxation is applicable as per Institute norms for various categories. Age relaxation for SC/ST/OBC (NCL) category applicants is applicable only if the post is reserved for that particular category. Age relaxation for PwD applicants & Ex-servicemen is as per rules. The age limit criterion will also be relaxed for applicants working in any department/section/unit/project of IIT Bombay provided they have served the Institute for at least three years (220 days or more per year) and who have crossed the age limit criterion during this period.

IIT Bombay Recruitment 2025: Selection Process

The selection process for these positions will generally involve the following stages:

  1. Scrutiny/Screening of Applications: Applications received will be scrutinized, and only shortlisted applicants will be called for the further selection process. Merely fulfilling the minimum requirements does not guarantee a call for the selection process. The Institute may limit the number of applicants called based on qualifications and/or experience higher than the minimum prescribed. 
  2. Written Test: Shortlisted candidates will undergo a written test.
    • For Jr. Administrative Assistant: Final selection shall be as per the shortlist drawn basis the written test only. Candidates need to obtain 60% marks or more (55% for SC/ST) in the written test. 
    • For Jr. Engineer (Civil, Electrical & Electronics), Technical Superintendent, Jr. TGT (Marathi), Primary Teacher (Grade I): A shortlist will be drawn from qualified candidates in order of merit in the written test. 
  3. Skill (Trade/Proficiency) Test (If Applicable):
    • For Jr. Engineer (Civil, Electrical & Electronics), Technical Superintendent, Jr. TGT (Marathi), Primary Teacher (Grade I): A skill test may be additionally conducted, which shall be qualifying in nature. 
    • Minimum qualifying marks for these posts in the written test (and skill test, if applicable) are generally 60% (55% for SC candidates in Technical Superintendent and Primary Teacher posts). 
  4. Document Verification: Original certificates will be verified at the time of the selection process and upon joining if selected. 

The final selection for posts involving a skill test will be based on the merit list drawn from the written test marks, subject to qualifying the skill test.
