Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must meet the following criteria to be eligible:
- Nationality/Domicile: Must be a permanent resident of Bihar.
- Age Limit (as of 01/01/2025): Minimum 19 years and Maximum 40 years for all categories (Male, Female, Third Gender).
- Educational Qualification (as of 01/01/2025): Must have passed Intermediate (10+2) or an equivalent examination recognized by the State Government.
- Physical Standards: Candidates must meet specific physical standards for height and chest (chest measurement for males only). Standards vary slightly for Purnia and Kosi division districts. Third Gender candidates must meet the standards prescribed for female candidates.
- Character: Must possess a clean moral character.
- Service Commitment: Must agree to serve in the Bihar Home Guard for a minimum of three years.

Selection Process
The selection process involves the following stages, conducted by the District Home Guard Selection Committee chaired by the District Magistrate:

- Physical Efficiency Test (PET): Conducted at the district level, worth a total of 15 marks based on performance in specific events.
- Race: 1600 meters for males (within 6 mins), 800 meters for females/third gender (within 5 mins). This is a qualifying event.
- Physical Measurement: Height and Chest (males only) verification. Must meet minimum standards.
- High Jump: Maximum 5 marks.
- Long Jump: Maximum 5 marks.
- Shot Put: Maximum 5 marks.
- Medical Examination: Candidates qualifying the PET undergo a medical test covering vision, color blindness, hearing, physical fitness, etc..
- Merit List: Prepared district-wise based on the total marks obtained in the three PET events (High Jump, Long Jump, Shot Put). Tie-breaking criteria will be applied if necessary. A list containing 1.5 times the number of vacancies will be published.
