CSIR IIIM Recruitment 2025: Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must ensure they meet the specified eligibility criteria as of the last date for submission of online applications. 

Educational Qualification:

  • For Junior Secretariat Assistant (Gen./F&A/S&P) (Post Codes: JSA-01, JSA-02, JSA-03):
    • Candidates must have passed 10+2/XII or its equivalent. 
    • Proficiency in computer type speed and in using computer as per the prescribed norms fixed by DOPT from time to time is essential. 
  • For Junior Stenographer (Post Code: JSTENO-04):
    • Candidates must have passed 10+2/XII or its equivalent. 
    • Proficiency in stenography as per the prescribed norms fixed by DOPT from time to time is required. 

Age Limit:

  • For Junior Secretariat Assistant (Gen./F&A/S&P): Not exceeding 28 years. 
  • For Junior Stenographer: Not exceeding 27 years. 
  • The cut-off date for determining age and qualifications is the last date for submission of online applications. 

Age Relaxation:

  • SC/ST: Relaxation of 5 years in the upper age limit for posts reserved for these categories. 
  • OBC (NCL): Relaxation of 3 years in the upper age limit for posts reserved for this category. 
  • Widows, Divorced Women, and Women Judicially Separated (not re-married): Upper age limit up to 35 years (40 years for SC members). Documentary evidence is required. 
  • Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD): Age relaxation of 10 years (15 years for SC, 13 years for OBC) for various disability categories, subject to a maximum age of 56 years. This is applicable even if the post is not reserved for PwBDs, provided it’s identified as suitable. A minimum of 40% disability is required. 
  • Ex-Servicemen: Age relaxation as per Government of India/CSIR Instructions.

CSIR IIIM Salary and Benefits

Selected candidates will be offered attractive remuneration and benefits:

  • Junior Secretariat Assistant (Gen./F&A/S&P):
    • Classification: Group C (Non-Gazetted) 
    • Pay Level: Pay Level 2 (₹19900-₹63200) 
  • Junior Stenographer:
    • Classification: Group C (Non-Gazetted) 
    • Pay Level: Pay Level 4 (₹25500-₹81100) 

Allowances and Other Benefits:

  • The posts include usual pay and allowances like House Rent Allowance (HRA), Transport Allowance, and Dearness Allowance (DA) at Central Government rates, applicable to employees stationed in Jammu (Class ‘Y’ City).

CSIR IIIM Selection Process 2025

The selection process varies for each post:

For Junior Secretariat Assistant (Gen/F&A/S&P):

  1. Screening: Candidates fulfilling all eligibility criteria will be recommended by the Screening Committee. 
  2. Proficiency Test: Invited candidates will undergo a proficiency test in computer typing and computer usage. This test is qualifying in nature. 
    • Typing Speed: English Typing @ 35 w.p.m. or Hindi Typing @ 30 w.p.m. (Time: 10 minutes). 35/30 w.p.m. corresponds to 10500/9000 KDPH on an average of 5 key depressions per word. 
  3. Competitive Written Examination:
    • Mode: OMR Based or Computer Based Objective type multiple choice examination. 
    • Medium: Questions will be in both English and Hindi, except for English Language questions. 
    • Standard: Class XII. 
    • Total Questions: 200. 
    • Total Time: 2 hours and 30 minutes. 
    • Paper-I (Time: 90 Minutes – Qualifying Nature):
      • Subject: Mental Ability Test* (General Intelligence, Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning, Problem Solving, Situational Judgment etc.) 
      • No. of Questions: 100 
      • Maximum Marks: 200 (two marks per correct answer) 
      • Negative Marks: None. 
    • Paper-II (Time: 1 Hour – Merit Deciding):(Evaluated only if Paper-I minimum threshold is met) 
      • Subject 1: General Awareness
        • No. of Questions: 50 
        • Maximum Marks: 150 (three marks per correct answer) 
        • Negative Marks: One negative mark for every wrong answer. 
      • Subject 2: English Language
        • No. of Questions: 50 
        • Maximum Marks: 150 (three marks per correct answer)

  4. Merit List: The final merit list will be prepared based on marks obtained in Paper-II only. Paper-I and the Proficiency Test are qualifying. 

For Junior Stenographer:

  1. Screening: Candidates fulfilling eligibility criteria will be recommended by the Screening Committee. 
  2. Proficiency Test in Stenography: Invited candidates will undergo a proficiency test in stenography, which is qualifying in nature. 
    • Dictation: 10 minutes in English or Hindi (as opted) at a speed of 80 w.p.m. 
    • Transcription Time:
      • English: 50 minutes (70 minutes for candidates eligible for a scribe). 
      • Hindi: 65 minutes (90 minutes for candidates eligible for a scribe). 
  3. Competitive Written Examination:
    • Mode: OMR Based or Computer Based Objective type multiple choice examination. 
    • Medium: Questions in English and Hindi, except for English Language questions. 
    • Standard: Class XII. 
    • Total Questions: 200. 
    • Total Time: 2 hours (2 hours and 40 minutes for candidates eligible for a scribe). 
    • Exam Structure (One Paper with three parts):
      • Part 1: General Intelligence & Reasoning
        • No. of Questions: 50 
        • Maximum Marks: 50 
        • Negative Marks: -0.25 for every wrong answer. 
      • Part 2: General Awareness
        • No. of Questions: 50

  4. Merit List: The final merit list will be based on marks from the Competitive Written Examination for those who qualify the proficiency test. The Selection Committee may fix minimum qualifying marks. 

Tie-Breaking Methodology (for both posts):

In case of a tie in aggregate marks:

  1. Candidate with lesser negative marks in Paper-II (for JSA) / Written Exam (for Steno) placed higher. 
  2. Older candidate placed higher. 
  3. Candidate acquiring minimum educational qualification earlier placed higher. 
  4. Alphabetical order of first names. 

The sequence of conducting the Written Examination and Proficiency Test will be decided by the Selection Committee and notified on the CSIR-IIIM website.

  1. Application Fee Payment (Step 1):
    • Remit the application fee of ₹500/- (if applicable) via SB Collect.
