Eligibility Criteria for NPCIL Executive Trainee

Candidates must fulfill the following criteria to be eligible:

  • Nationality: Must be an Indian National.
  • Educational Qualification:
    • BE/B Tech/B Sc (Engineering)/5-year Integrated M Tech with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a University/Institute recognized by AICTE/UGC. 60% marks are as per the respective university’s ordinances.
    • Required Disciplines: Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, Civil. (Refer to the official notification for specific acceptable degrees within these disciplines ).
    • Final year/semester students (appearing in 2025) are eligible to apply, provided they can submit their final results (minimum 60%) by 1st December 2025.
  • GATE Score: Must possess a valid GATE 2023, GATE 2024, or GATE 2025 score in the same engineering discipline as the qualifying degree. GATE scores from 2022 or earlier are not valid.
  • Age Limit (as of 30/04/2025):
    • General/EWS: 26 years (Born on or after 30.04.1999) 
    • OBC (NCL): 29 years (Born on or after 30.04.1996) 
    • SC/ST: 31 years (Born on or after 30.04.1994) 
    • PwBD: Additional 10 years relaxation over the respective category limit.
    • Other relaxations apply as per government norms (Ex-servicemen, Dependents of riot victims).

Selection Process: How NPCIL Recruits ETs

The selection methodology involves the following stages:

  1. Shortlisting: Candidates are shortlisted for interviews based on their valid GATE 2023, GATE 2024, or GATE 2025 scores. Equal weightage is given to scores from all three years. The shortlisting ratio is 1:12 (vacancy: candidates) for each discipline and category.
  2. Personal Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be called for a Personal Interview. Interviews are tentatively scheduled between 9th and 21st June 2025 at Mumbai, NAPS (UP), MAPS (TN), and KGS (Karnataka). Candidates can choose their preferred interview venue in the online application, but NPCIL reserves the right to allocate the final venue. Candidates can opt to answer in Hindi or English.
  3. Document Verification: Original documents will be verified during the interview.
  4. Final Selection: Based solely on performance in the Personal Interview, subject to medical fitness. GATE scores hold no weightage in the final selection stage. Qualifying marks in the interview are 70% for UR and 60% for reserved categories (EWS/SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PwBD).
  5. Medical Fitness: Appointment is subject to being found medically fit by NPCIL’s authorised Medical Officer.

  5. Upload Documents: Upload scanned copies of your recent photograph (10KB-50KB) and signature (Min 80×100 pixels, Max 160×560 pixels, <20KB) in JPEG format.
  6. Review & Submit: Carefully review all entered details. Once confirmed, submit the application. No changes are possible after final submission.
  7. Application Fee Payment: If applicable (Male candidates of General/EWS/OBC categories), pay the ₹500 fee online via Debit Card/Credit Card/Net Banking/UPI.   • Selected candidates undergo a one-year orientation training at designated NPCIL Training Centres.
