OPSC Assistant Professor Eligibility Criteria 2025
Candidates aspiring for the OPSC Assistant Professor (Broad Speciality) posts must fulfill the following eligibility criteria:
- Educational Qualification:
- Must possess a Post Graduate Degree in the concerned Broad Speciality or any other equivalent degree or qualification prescribed by the MCI/NMC from time to time.
- Candidates with a Diplomate National Board (DNB) training in the concerned subject are also eligible, subject to fulfilling other MCI/NMC criteria.
- Specific academic qualifications and teaching experience vary by discipline. For detailed, discipline-wise qualification requirements, please refer to pages 4 to 9 of the official notification provided below.
- For certain disciplines like Anatomy, Bio-chemistry, and Physiology, non-medical teachers with M.Sc. in the relevant medical subject along with a Ph.D. in the same may be appointed to the extent of 15% of total posts if medical teachers are unavailable.
- Age Limit (as on January 1, 2025):
- Minimum Age: 21 years
- Maximum Age: 45 years (i.e., candidates must not have been born earlier than January 2, 1980, and not later than January 1, 2004).
- Age Relaxation:
- 5 years for candidates belonging to SEBC, SC, ST, Women & Ex-Servicemen categories.
- 10 years for Persons With Disabilities (PwD) with 40% or more permanent disability.
- Cumulative age relaxation of 15 years for PwD candidates belonging to SEBC/SC/ST categories.
- Up to 5 years for in-service doctors serving on an ad hoc or contractual basis under the Government or Government undertakings.
- If a candidate falls under multiple relaxation categories, only one benefit, whichever is most advantageous, will be applicable.

OPSC Assistant Professor Salary & Benefits (Academic Level-12)
Selected candidates for the post of Assistant Professor (Broad Speciality) will be placed in the Academic Level-12 of ORSP (MCT) Rules, 2019. They will also be entitled to the usual dearness allowance and other allowances as sanctioned by the Government of Odisha from time to time. Appointees on or after January 1, 2005, will be covered under the defined Contributory Pension Scheme.
OPSC Assistant Professor Selection Process 2025
The selection of candidates for the OPSC Assistant Professor (Broad Speciality) recruitment will be based on the following:
- Written Test:
- The written examination will be for a total of 200 marks.
- It will consist of 200 Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQ) pattern, evaluated using OMR.
- Each question will carry one mark.
- There will be negative marking: 0.25 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer. No marks for un-attempted questions.
- The duration of the examination will be 3 hours.
- The qualifying marks will be decided by the Commission.
- The syllabus for the written test will be the MCI/NMC approved MD/M.S. syllabus for Broad Speciality subjects. For Medical M.Sc., the syllabus will be as per the NMC Curriculum of the Broad Speciality.
- The written examination will be held in Cuttack.
- Document Verification:
- Candidates qualifying in the written examination will be shortlisted for document verification. Typically, twice the number of advertised vacancies in different categories will be called, subject to a minimum of five.
- Candidates must produce hard copies of their online application form along with original certificates and self-attested photocopies for verification.
Preference: Candidates who are native or residents of Odisha will be given preference if two candidates secure equal marks in the recruitment and one of them is not a native or resident of Odisha. In case of a tie in marks, the candidate with higher marks in the MBBS Examination will be ranked higher. If MBBS marks are also the same, the older candidate will be placed higher.
