Key Highlights — CSIR CSIO Recruitment 2026

CSIR-CSIO is a national laboratory under the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research that designs and develops scientific instruments for the country. Working here means a stable, pensionable career with pay and allowances on central government patterns as applicable to CSIR, plus the full set of Council benefits — DA, HRA, transport allowance, medical reimbursement, LTC and children education allowance. These are isolated-cadre posts, so the number of openings is always small — which makes a 6-post notification worth acting on quickly.

  • Post Names: Security Officer (Group B), Receptionist (Group B) and Driver (Group C)
  • Total Vacancies: 6 posts
  • Salary / Pay Level: Level-7, Level-6 and Level-2 of the 7th CPC Pay Matrix
  • Minimum Qualification: 10th pass with LMV & HMV licence for Driver; Graduate for Receptionist
  • Job Location: Chandigarh (Sector 30-C), with possible posting at CSIR-CSIO centres
  • Last Date to Apply: 14 September 2026 (up to 5:00 PM)

Out of the four Driver posts, one post is reserved for Ex-Servicemen — this is a horizontal reservation carved out of the three UR posts, not an extra vacancy. No SC, ST or EWS vacancies have been advertised in this notification. PwBD reservation is horizontal, and the advertisement lists the suitable disability categories for Security Officer and Receptionist as per the Ministry of Social Justice notification of 04.01.2021.

CSIR-CSIO reserves the right not to fill these vacancies, and the number of vacancies is provisional and may vary. One point worth noting: even though the Security Officer post is shown as UR, it is open only to Ex-Servicemen — JCOs of Subedar rank or higher, or equivalent ranks in paramilitary forces.

Eligibility Criteria — CSIR CSIO Recruitment 2026

The crucial date for qualification, experience and upper age limit is the last date of online application, 14 September 2026.

Educational Qualification

  • Security Officer: Ex-Servicemen JCO (Subedar or higher rank) or equivalent rank in other paramilitary forces with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in security. The requirement drops to 5 years for Short Service Commissioned Officers and for those holding the position of Assistant Commandant in CRPF / BSF / ITBP carrying the pre-revised pay scale of ₹8,000 to ₹13,500. For an Inspector from paramilitary forces, 10 years’ experience is required.
  • Receptionist: Graduate with two years’ relevant experience as a Receptionist in a Government body, Autonomous Body or Public Undertaking.
  • Driver: Pass in 10th standard, a valid driving licence for LMV and HMV, knowledge of motor mechanism (should be able to remove minor defects in the vehicle), and experience of driving a motor car for at least three years.

Remember that possessing the minimum qualification does not automatically entitle you to be called for the test — screening and shortlisting are at the discretion of the competent authority. Graduates should also browse other current graduate-level government vacancies.

Age Limit

Candidates must be at least 18 years old, and the upper age limit differs by post as on 14 September 2026.

PostUpper Age Limit

Driver27 years

OBC (NCL) candidates get a 3-year relaxation where the post is reserved for that category. PwBD candidates get 10 years (13 years for OBC), subject to a maximum age of 56 years on the crucial date, and this relaxation applies whether or not the post is reserved for PwBD. Ex-Servicemen and Commissioned Officers including ECOs and SSCOs get a 3-year relaxation; alternatively, an Ex-Serviceman may deduct the length of his actual military service from his age, and the resultant age must not exceed the prescribed upper limit by more than 3 years (6 years for OBC). Widows, divorced women and women judicially separated and not remarried may be relaxed up to 35 years (38 years for OBC).
