CSIR IITR Junior Stenographer Recruitment 2025: Eligibility Criteria

Candidates aspiring to apply for the CSIR IITR Junior Stenographer posts must ensure they meet the specified eligibility criteria regarding education, age limit, and proficiency.

Educational Qualification

  • Candidates must have passed 10+2/XII or its equivalent from a recognized Board. 
  • Proficiency in Stenography, either in English or in Hindi, as per the prescribed norms of DOPT/CSIR is mandatory. 

Age Limit (as on 31/05/2025)

  • The upper age limit for applying is 27 years as of the last date of submission of the online application (31/05/2025). 
  • The minimum age for applying is 18 years as on the last date of submission of the online application. 
  • Age Relaxation: Age relaxation for reserved categories will be applicable as per existing Government of India/CSIR rules. 
    • Scheduled Castes (SC): 5 years (only if posts are reserved for the category). 
    • Other Backward Classes (OBC): 3 years (only if posts are reserved for the category). 
    • Widows, Divorced Women, and Women Judicially separated from Husbands (not re-married): Up to 35 years (up to 40 years for SC members). Documentary evidence is required. 
    • Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD): 10 years (15 years for SC, 13 years for OBC), with the maximum age not exceeding 56 years. This is applicable if the post is identified as suitable for the relevant disability category and the disability is a minimum of 40%. 
    • Ex-Servicemen: As per Government of India/CSIR Instructions.

CSIR IITR Junior Stenographer Salary & Benefits

Selected candidates for the Junior Stenographer post will receive an attractive salary package and other benefits as per Central Government norms.

  • Pay Scale: Pay Level 4, Cell-1 of Pay Matrix as per the 7th CPC. 
  • Total Emoluments: Approximately Rs. 50,200/- per month (on minimum of scale including HRA, TA as applicable in Class ‘Y’ Cities, and DA as applicable to Central Government Staff). 
  • Allowances: The posts carry usual allowances such as House Rent Allowance (HRA), Transport Allowance (TA), and Dearness Allowance (DA) at Central Government rates applicable to employees stationed in Lucknow (Class ‘Y’ City).

The selection process for the Junior Stenographer position will involve a Competitive Written Examination and a Proficiency Test in Stenography.

1. Competitive Written Examination

  • Mode of Examination: OMR Based or Computer Based Objective Type Multiple Choice Examination. 
  • Medium of Questions: English and Hindi (except for the English Language section). 
  • Standard of Examination: 10+2/XII. 
  • Total No. of Questions: 200. 
  • Time Allotted: 2 hours (2 hours and 40 minutes for candidates eligible for a Scribe).

2. Proficiency Test in Stenography

  • Candidates will be given one dictation for 10 minutes in either English or Hindi (as opted in the Application Form) at a speed of 80 w.p.m. 
  • Transcription Time:
    • English: 50 minutes (70 minutes for candidates eligible for a Scribe). 
    • Hindi: 65 minutes (90 minutes for candidates eligible for a Scribe). 
  • The proficiency test in stenography will be qualifying in nature. The methodology for evaluation is detailed in Annexure-I of the notification. 

Preparation of Merit List

  • The final merit list will be prepared based on the candidates’ performance in the competitive written examination. 
  • Only those candidates who qualify the proficiency test in stenography will be included in the merit list. 
  • Tie-Breaking Rules (in order of preference):
    1. Candidate with lesser negative marks in the written test. 
    2. Older candidate (based on Date of Birth). 
    3. Candidate acquiring Essential Qualification earlier. 
    4. Alphabetical order of first names. 

3. Document Verification

  • All testimonials and certificates will be verified. Candidates must produce original documents when required. Any discrepancy will lead to ineligibility. 

The selected candidates will be on probation for a period of 2 (Two) Years from the date of joining.
