The interviews run on 38 days, not on every day — there are breaks, for example between 16 and 22 October and between 6 and 17 November. The final day, 17 December, has only six candidates, all in the forenoon session. Educational Qualification
Candidates must have passed the written and practical parts of the final M.B.B.S. Examination. Those who applied while appearing in final MBBS had to submit proof of passing within the 15-day window after the written result — failing which they are not allowed to participate in the further stages of the examination. A candidate yet to finish the compulsory rotating internship is eligible, but on selection will be appointed only after completing it. Apart from these relaxations, the age limit can in no case be relaxed. A PwBD candidate will be appointed only if found to meet the physical and medical standards for the Service allocated.
What is the Salary of UPSC CMS 2026 Medical Officers?

Private practice is not allowed for Railway doctors. ADMOs serve one year of probation and must pass a Hindi exam of an approved standard during it; failing that, the service can be terminated. If required, they may also have to serve in a Defence Service for at least four years — but not after ten years from appointment, and not ordinarily after the age of 45.

Even final success does not give an automatic right to appointment. A candidate found medically unfit after the prescribed physical examination will not be appointed. Every stage is provisional — if any eligibility condition is found unmet at any time, UPSC will cancel the candidature.
