Final selection follows the approved merit method and on meeting every eligibility and contract condition. The CBT is 90 minutes, objective multiple choice, in English. Negative marking does not apply, so attempt every question. If it runs in several shifts, a normalisation method will be used. Start with the syllabus and a few previous papers for similar CBT exams.
The indicative syllabus covers vocabulary, grammar and comprehension; analogies, coding-decoding and series; arithmetic, algebra, geometry and data interpretation; and current affairs, polity, economy, basic maritime awareness, computer fundamentals, MS Office and cyber-security basics.
Typing Test
The typing test follows the CBT. It is 15 minutes, in English only, and needs 35 words per minute, which the notice equates to about 10,500 key depressions per hour. It is judged on the accuracy of typing a given passage. It is only qualifying, but failing it ends your chances.
