JKSSB Class-IV (MTS) Recruitment 2026: 2,863 MTS and Sanitation Worker Posts Across J&K
The Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board has advertised 2,863 Class-IV (MTS) and Sanitation Worker posts under Advertisement Notification No. 09 of 2026. Every one of these posts carries Pay Level SL1 (Rs. 14,800 – 47,100), and the seats are spread across the UT Cadre, both Divisional Cadres and all 20 District Cadres. If you are looking for government jobs in Jammu and Kashmir and your schooling stopped at 8th class (Sanitation Worker), matric or higher secondary, this is a very large opening and it deserves your attention.
The online window runs from 5 October 2026 to 3 November 2026, so you have time — but read the qualification rule before you plan anything else. This advertisement has a ceiling as well as a floor: a candidate holding a qualification above 10+2 is not eligible at all. Below you will find the full cadre and district-wise seat break-up, the exact eligibility bar, the fee, the weightage that decides your rank, and the conditions that get candidates rejected. Keep GovtJobsAlert.in open while you fill the form.

| Udhampur | OM 19 / SC 4 / ST-1 5 / ST-2 5 / OBC 3 / ALC-IB 2 / RBA 5 / EWS 3 | 46 |
Look at Shopian and Ramban before you set your preference. A Shopian OBC, ALC/IB, RBA or EWS candidate has no seat at all in that district cadre, and the same is true for OBC, ALC/IB and EWS in Ramban and for ALC/IB in Kulgam and Kupwara. A zero means that cadre cannot select you under that category — choose a cadre where your category actually has a seat.
What is the Eligibility for JKSSB Class-IV (MTS) Recruitment 2026?
Educational Qualification — There Is a Maximum, Not Just a Minimum
| Post | Qualification Prescribed |
|---|---|
| Class-IV (MTS) | Minimum Matric (10th pass) and Maximum 10+2 — S.O. 184 of 2020 read with SRO 99 of 2008 |
| Sanitation Worker | Minimum 8th pass and Maximum 10+2 — S.O. 132 of 2022 |
| Bar on both posts | A candidate whose qualification is above 10+2 — any diploma, graduation or post-graduation — shall NOT be eligible, and such candidature will be summarily rejected at any stage of the recruitment process |
Read that third row twice. This is not a preference and it is not a tie-breaker: if you already hold a degree, this advertisement is closed to you even though you clear every other condition. Candidates apply anyway, pay the fee, and are thrown out at Document Verification. If you hold a degree, save your money and wait for the Board’s graduate-level advertisements.
You must produce the original certificate proving the prescribed qualification was acquired on or before 3 November 2026, failing which the Board will cancel your candidature. If you are claiming an equivalent qualification, an Equivalence Certificate from the competent authority is mandatory when the Board asks for it.

| RBA | 43 years — not born before 01.01.1983 |
| ALC/IB | 43 years — not born before 01.01.1983 |

| OBC | 43 years — not born before 01.01.1983 |
| Physically Challenged Person | 42 years — not born before 01.01.1984 |
| Ex-Servicemen | Deduct actual service from your age; if the balance exceeds the limit by not more than 3 years, you are treated as within the limit |
| Casual worker claiming additional weightage | 5 years relaxation in the upper age limit under S.O. 184 of 2020 |
| Everyone (minimum age) | Must not be born after 01.01.2008 |

Work out your exact age on 1 January 2026, not on the day you apply. Every applicant must also be a domicile of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir and hold a valid Domicile Certificate in the prescribed format, issued on or before 3 November 2026. There is no route into this advertisement without it.
What is the Salary for JKSSB Class-IV (MTS) and Sanitation Worker 2026?
| Component | Detail |
|---|---|
| Pay Level | SL1 |
| Pay Scale | Rs. 14,800 – 47,100 |
| Applies to | Class-IV (MTS) and Sanitation Worker alike |
Both posts sit on the same pay level, so a Sanitation Worker in Estates and an MTS in Public Works start identically. The notification states the pay level and nothing further about allowances, so treat Rs. 14,800 as the entry basic; service conditions follow the extant rules of the UT of J&K. For a matric or 8th-pass qualification, a permanent job on a running scale of this size is a strong outcome.
What is the Selection Process for JKSSB Class-IV Recruitment 2026?
| Stage | Detail |
|---|---|
| Online application | 5 October 2026 to 3 November 2026 |
| Written / OMR examination | Objective type, multiple choice; questions set in English language only |
| Negative marking | One-fourth of the marks assigned to a question, for every wrong answer |
| Additional weightage points | Allocated under S.O. 184 of 2020 and added to your written-test marks |
| Document Verification | Only for candidates shortlisted by the Board |
| Cadre and Department allocation | On merit-cum-preference basis; once notified it is final and binding |
Your rank is written test plus weightage, and the weightage differs by cadre. This is the part most candidates never read.
| Merit Component | Marks (UT / Divisional / District) |
|---|---|
| Written Test | 85 / 80 / 75 |
| Candidate of the Home Division (per Domicile Certificate) | — / 5 / — |
| Candidate of the Home District (per Domicile Certificate) | — / — / 10 |
| No family member — defined as spouse, brother, sister and parents only, and no one else — is or has been in Government service, including PSUs, Boards and autonomous bodies | 5 / 5 / 5 |
| Widow, divorced woman, judicially separated woman or orphan girl (certificate by Tehsildar) | 5 / 5 / 5 |
| Casual worker — daily-rated, adhoc, contractual or consolidated staff, or those engaged through a Hospital Development Fund or local fund — engaged for five years or more as on 3 November 2026, proved by wage records countersigned by the District or Divisional Head of the office | 5 / 5 / 5 |
| Maximum Marks | 100 / 100 / 100 |
Ten marks for your home district is a big edge, so pick preferences with that in mind. The syllabus, exam date and centre are not in this notification — the Board notifies all three separately on its website. Watch the exam syllabus updates page while you prepare.
How to Apply Online for JKSSB Class-IV Recruitment 2026?
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Read Advertisement Notification No. 09 of 2026 fully before you begin |
| 2 | Register on the JKSSB online portal — link available in Essential Links |
| 3 | Enter name, date of birth, father’s name and mother’s name exactly as on your matriculation certificate |
| 4 | Upload a live photograph and signature, each between 10 KB and 20 KB |
| 5 | Indicate your item numbers and your Cadre and Department preferences |
| 6 | Pay the fee online by net banking, credit card or debit card |
| 7 | Submit and save a printout of the completed form for Document Verification |
Only one application per item number is allowed; if the Board finds more than one, it considers the latest. Keep the Domicile Certificate and your reservation certificate in the prescribed format ready before you start — those two are what forfeit a claim later — a certificate in the wrong format is treated as no certificate at all.
What are the Important Dates for JKSSB Class-IV Recruitment 2026?
| Event | Date |
|---|---|
| Notification issued | 1 September 2026 |
| Online application opens | 5 October 2026 |
| Last date to apply and pay the fee | 3 November 2026 |
| Cut-off for qualification, domicile and category certificates | 3 November 2026 |

Payment is online only — net banking, credit card or debit card. The prescribed fee is never refunded or adjusted against another examination, and no chargeback is entertained, so pay only after you are sure you meet the qualification ceiling.
JKSSB Class-IV Recruitment 2026 — Conditions That Can Cost You the Job
| Condition | What it means for you |
|---|---|
| Qualification above 10+2 | You are not eligible, and your candidature will be summarily rejected at any stage |
| Qualification proof | Originals must show the qualification was acquired on or before the cut-off date, failing which the candidature shall be cancelled |
| Qualification obtained outside J&K | If your 10th or 10+2 is from a University, College or Institute outside the UT of J&K (other than a Central University), you must also produce a Bonafide Certificate in the Board’s prescribed format, issued by the Controller or Registrar of that institution, at Document Verification |
| Reservation certificate format | A certificate not in the prescribed format shall in no case be entertained; the application is summarily rejected, and at Document Verification the candidature is liable for cancellation or rejection |
| Reserved-category certificate not produced at DV | Your reservation claim is not entertained and your candidature is considered under Open Merit — which also removes the 43/42-year relaxation, so a candidate over 40 falls outside the age limit altogether |
| False or forged reservation claim | A claim made on an invalid, false, fake, fraudulent or forged certificate means you shall be debarred from the Board’s examinations, besides penal action |
| Ex-Servicemen horizontal reservation | Applies to posts up to Pay Level-6E, so it covers these SL1 posts — but under S.O. 361 of 2021 an ESM who already joined a post using ESM horizontal reservation cannot avail it again. You must file a sworn affidavit before a 1st Class Judicial Magistrate at scrutiny and produce a Form XIV certificate under Rule 18 of the J&K Reservation Rules, 2005 |
| Wrong claim found at scrutiny | Candidature is cancelled and criminal proceedings under law may follow |
| Weightage certificates not produced at DV | Your candidature is considered without any additional weightage. The ‘no family member in Government service’ certificate must be authenticated by a Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Additional Commissioner or Additional Deputy Commissioner; the widow/divorced/judicially separated/orphan-girl certificate by the Tehsildar; the casual-worker certificate countersigned by the District or Divisional Head of the office |
| Provisional admission to the exam | The Board does not scrutinise eligibility in detail before the written/OMR examination, therefore candidature is accepted only provisionally; an ineligible candidate is not allowed into the later stages |
| Seat count is not guaranteed | The actual number of posts may increase or decrease before or during the selection process and JKSSB accepts no legal liability for the variation. The whole advertisement is also subject to the outcome of any writ petition or O.A. pending before a competent court |
| Two applications for the same item number | If more than one is detected the Board simply considers the latest form — but if you submit multiple forms and appear in the examination more than once for that item, candidature is cancelled and you are debarred from the Board’s examinations |
| Preferences once filled | No request for change of Cadre or Department will be entertained under any circumstances |
| Any particular once submitted | There is no correction window in this advertisement. Once the form is submitted and an application number is generated, no change or correction in any entry or field — name, date of birth, parents’ names, category, item number — will be entertained at any later stage under any circumstances |
| Allocation once notified | Final and binding; no representation will be entertained, whatever the reason |
| No preference indicated | You are deemed to have accepted whatever the Board allots you |
| Absent at Document Verification | If you fail to appear or to produce originals, you shall not be considered for selection |
| What to carry to Document Verification | Besides the originals, bring a self-attested photocopy of every document, certificate and of the online application form, two recent passport-size colour photographs (not older than six months, with the date on them) and a valid photo-ID in original |
| Already in government service | You must indicate this in the online form, and submit the signed and stamped printout through proper channel — your Head of Department must forward it to the Secretary, JKSSB, on or before the last date of Document Verification |
| Blurred photograph or signature | The application is rejected summarily |
| Name changed after matriculation | Enter the matriculation name in the form, and bring proof of the change to DV: the change must be published in the Government Gazette, plus a spouse’s death certificate (widow), a certified copy of the divorce decree (divorce), or original cuttings from two leading dailies in any other case |
| No photo-ID or photographs at the centre | Besides the Roll Number slip you must carry two passport-size colour photographs — recent, not older than six months, with the date printed on them — and an original valid photo-ID. Without them you will not be allowed to appear in the examination |
| Admit card issued | It confers no right to continue if a discrepancy in identity, qualification or eligibility comes to notice |
| PwBD candidate using a scribe | Your scribe must not be a candidate in the same examination, not a student of the same institution or centre where the test is held, and not your relative; the scribe must be of a lower grade of education than you and must not hold more than the minimum qualification for the post — if the scribe’s qualification is beyond that, you forfeit your right to the post and all claims relating to it |
| PwBD facilities not claimed in the form | A PwBD candidate may avail a scribe and/or compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour of examination — but only if the application form was filled as a PwBD candidate at the time of applying. You must arrange your own scribe, carry the Annexure-B and Annexure-C certificates plus the scribe’s qualification and ID copies, and reach the centre at least one hour early |
| Who must sign your Annexure-B | The physical-limitation certificate is valid only if signed by the Chief Medical Officer, Civil Surgeon or Medical Superintendent of a Government healthcare institution, and it must be given by a specialist of the relevant disability stream — an ophthalmologist for visual impairment, an orthopaedic or PMR specialist for locomotor disability. A private or general practitioner’s certificate will not be accepted |
| Fraudulent PwBD claim | Candidates shall be debarred from the examination, and if a scribe is caught assisting as a candidate, both candidatures are cancelled |
| Fake or fabricated registration | Misusing any dignitary’s name or photo makes you responsible and liable to legal action under the cyber and IT laws |
| What submitting the form commits you to | Submission is itself your agreement to undergo every security and scrutiny mechanism the Board puts in place — including physical frisking, door-frame metal detector scanning, biometric capture, facial-recognition screening and Aadhaar authentication |
| Any device at the examination centre | A mobile phone even in switched-off mode, pen drive, smart watch, smart glasses, AI-enabled device, camera or bluetooth accessory means disciplinary action — cancellation of this candidature and a ban from future Board examinations. No safe-keeping is arranged at the venue, so leave them at home |
| Misconduct at any stage | Any irregularity, misconduct, malpractice or misbehaviour at any stage of the recruitment gets you debarred from JKSSB examinations for whatever period the Board thinks fit, besides cancellation of this candidature and any further penal action. Misbehaviour expressly includes defying the instructions or authority of any officer on examination duty |
| Travel | No TA or DA is paid for the written test or for Document Verification |
| Charged twice by the portal | The prescribed fee itself is never refunded or adjusted, and no chargeback will be entertained — but for an excess payment the Board directs candidates to apply by e-mail to ssbjk-grievance.jk.gov.in only |

If you are a matric or 10+2 pass J&K domicile within the age limit, apply — 2,863 posts is rare; 8th pass opens 166 Sanitation Worker seats. Check the seat count for your category in your cadre first, then set preferences with the weightage for that cadre in mind — the 10-mark home-district edge exists only in a District Cadre, which carries no Sanitation Worker seat, while a Divisional Cadre gives 5 marks for your home division and the UT Cadre none. The window shuts on 3 November 2026; do not wait for the last week, when a failed payment can cost you the whole application.
