Eligibility Criteria for SSC Translator Posts
Candidates must meet the specific educational qualifications and age limits to be eligible for these positions.
Educational Qualification (as on 01.08.2025)
- For Junior Hindi Translator/ Junior Translation Officer/ Junior Translator (Post Codes ‘A’ to ‘C’):
- Master’s degree from a recognized University in Hindi with English as a compulsory or elective subject or as the medium of examination at the degree level. OR
- Master’s degree from a recognized University in English with Hindi as a compulsory or elective subject or as the medium of examination at the degree level. OR
- Master’s degree from a recognized University in any subject other than Hindi or English, with Hindi medium and English as a compulsory or elective subject or as the medium of examination at the degree level. OR
- Master’s degree from a recognized University in any subject other than Hindi or English, with English medium and Hindi as a compulsory or elective subject or as the medium of examination at the degree level. OR
- Master’s Degree of a recognized University in any subject other than Hindi or English, with Hindi and English as compulsory or elective subjects or either of the two as a medium of examination and the other as a compulsory or elective subject at degree level.
- AND Recognized Diploma or Certificate course in translation from Hindi to English & vice versa or two years’ experience of translation work from Hindi to English and vice versa in Central or State Government Office, including Government of India Undertaking.
- For Senior Hindi Translator/ Senior Translator (Post Code ‘D’):
- Master’s degree in Hindi with English as a subject at the degree level. OR
- Master’s degree in English with Hindi as a subject at the degree level. OR
- Master’s degree in any subject with Hindi medium and English as a subject at the degree level. OR
- Master’s degree in any subject with English medium and Hindi as a subject at the degree level. OR
- Master’s degree in any subject with Hindi and English as subjects at the degree level.
- AND Recognized Diploma or Certificate course in translation from Hindi to English & vice versa or three years’ experience of translation work from Hindi to English and vice versa in Central or State Government Office, including Government of India Undertaking.
- For Sub-Inspector (Hindi Translator) in CRPF (Post Code ‘E’):
- The educational qualifications are the same as for Junior Hindi Translator/Junior Translation Officer/Junior Translator.
- AND Recognized Diploma or Certificate course in translation from Hindi to English & vice versa or two years’ experience of translation work from Hindi to English and vice versa in a Central or State Government Office, including a Public Sector Undertaking.
- Candidates must also meet specific Physical and Medical Standards.
Age Limit
- For all posts (except Sub-Inspector in CRPF): 18 to 30 years as on 01-08-2025. Candidates should not have been born before 02-08-1995 and not later than 01-08-2007.
- For Sub-Inspector (Hindi Translator) in CRPF: 18 to 30 years as on the closing date of online applications (26.06.2025). Candidates should not have been born before 25-06-1995 and not later than 26-06-2007.
- Permissible age relaxation is available for various reserved categories.

Salary and Benefits
The posts offer attractive pay scales as per the 7th Central Pay Commission.
- Level-7 (Rs. 44900-142400): Senior Hindi Translator (SHT)/Senior Translator (ST).
- Level-6 (Rs. 35400-112400): Junior Translation Officer (JTO), Junior Hindi Translator (JHT)/ Junior Translator (JT), and Sub-Inspector (Hindi Translator).
Selection Process
The selection process for the SSC Combined Hindi Translators Examination, 2025 will consist of two papers:
- Paper-I (Computer Based Examination): This is an objective type paper with multiple-choice questions on General Hindi and General English, each carrying 100 marks. There will be a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each incorrect answer. Candidates will be shortlisted for Paper-II based on their performance in Paper-I.
- Paper-II (Descriptive): This paper will test the candidates’ translation skills and their ability to write as well as comprehend the two languages. It will include two passages for translation (one from Hindi to English and one from English to Hindi) and an essay each in Hindi and English.
- Document Verification: Candidates who clear both papers will be called for Document Verification by the User Departments/Organizations after the declaration of the final result.
Final selection and allocation of Ministries/Departments will be based on the candidates’ performance in both Paper-I and Paper-II and the preferences they have exercised.
How to Apply for SSC Translator Recruitment 2025
Candidates must submit their applications online through the new official website of SSC.
- One-Time Registration (OTR): New users must complete the OTR process on Official SSC Website. The OTR generated on the old website (ssc.nic.in) is not valid for the new website.
- Application Form: After OTR, log in and proceed to fill out the application form for the “Combined Hindi Translators Examination, 2025.”
- Live Photograph: The application module will capture a live photograph of the candidate. Ensure good lighting, a plain background, and that you are not wearing a cap, mask, or glasses.
- Upload Signature: Upload a scanned copy of your signature in JPEG format (10 to 20 KB).
- Submit Application: Review the filled application form carefully before final submission.
- Fee Payment: Pay the application fee online.
Application Fees
- General/OBC Candidates: Rs. 100/-
- Women, SC, ST, PwBD, and Ex-Servicemen: Exempted from fee payment.
The fee can be paid online via BHIM UPI, Net Banking, or by using Visa, MasterCard, Maestro, or RuPay Debit cards.
