Eligibility Criteria for SSC Stenographer 2025

Educational Qualification (as on 01.08.2025)
- Candidates must have passed the 12th standard or an equivalent examination from a recognized Board or University on or before the cut-off date of August 1, 2025.
- Degrees, diplomas, and certificates awarded through Open and Distance Learning mode are also recognized if approved by the Distance Education Bureau, UGC.
Age Limit (as of 01.08.2025)
The age limit for the posts is determined as of August 1, 2025.
- Stenographer Grade ‘C’: 18 to 30 years. Candidates must have been born not before August 2, 1995, and not later than August 1, 2007.
- Stenographer Grade ‘D’: 18 to 27 years. Candidates must have been born not before August 2, 1998, and not later than August 1, 2007.

Salary & Benefits
Selected candidates will be appointed to Group ‘B’ and Group ‘C’ posts with All India Service Liability (AISL), meaning they can be posted anywhere in India.
- Stenographer Grade ‘C’: This is a Group ‘B’ Non-Gazetted post, typically corresponding to Pay Level-6 of the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC) pay matrix (₹35,400 – ₹1,12,400).
- Stenographer Grade ‘D’: This is a Group ‘C’ post, typically corresponding to Pay Level-4 of the 7th CPC pay matrix (₹25,500 – ₹81,100).
In addition to the basic pay, employees are entitled to various allowances like Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), and Transport Allowance (TA) as per government rules.
Selection Process
The selection process for the SSC Stenographer exam involves two main stages: a Computer Based Examination followed by a Skill Test.

Stage 1: Computer Based Examination (CBE) Pattern
- The exam will consist of objective-type, multiple-choice questions.
- The questions will be set in both English and Hindi.

Stage 2: Skill Test in Stenography
- Candidates who are shortlisted in the CBE will appear for the Skill Test.
- This test is mandatory but qualifying in nature.
- Candidates will be given a 10-minute dictation in either English or Hindi.
- Dictation Speed:
- Stenographer Grade ‘C’: 100 words per minute (w.p.m.).
- Stenographer Grade ‘D’: 80 w.p.m.
- The dictated matter must be transcribed on a computer within a specified time limit.

- One-Time Registration (OTR): All candidates must first complete the OTR process on the new SSC website. Keep your Mobile Number, Email ID, Aadhaar Number, and Matriculation details handy.
- Fill Application Form: Log in with your registration credentials and click on the “Apply” link for the “Stenographer Grade ‘C’ & ‘D’ Examination, 2025” under the ‘Live Exam’ tab.
- Upload Documents: The application module is designed to capture a live photograph. Ensure you are in a well-lit place with a plain background, looking directly at the camera without a cap, mask, or glasses. You also need to upload a scanned signature in JPEG/JPG format (10 to 20 KB).
- Pay Application Fee: Proceed to make the fee payment if applicable.

- Fee Payable: ₹100 (Rupees one hundred only).
- Exemptions: Women candidates, Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD), and Ex-servicemen (ESM) are exempted from fee payment.
- Payment Mode: The fee can be paid online through BHIM UPI, Net Banking, or by using Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, or RuPay Debit cards.
