Every candidate needs a valid Indian CDC, Passport, INDOS and basic STCW 2010 certificates. Candidates who already hold, or are about to obtain, a CoC as MEO Class IV are not eligible for Trainee Marine Engineer. Candidates with extra qualifications get no added advantage, but you must hold the essential qualification to attend. Differently abled candidates need not apply. Trainee Marine Engineers and Trainee Electrical Officers must give a Bank Guarantee of Rs 3 lakh (or deposit the same amount with DCI). They must then serve DCI for five years after training and getting the CoC (TME) or posting as ELO (TELO).

Training may be extended or curtailed as DCI or DG Shipping require. Think about the bond before you attend. For TME and TELO, the minimum cut-off for Gen / OBC is 50% in each part (40 of 80 and 10 of 20). For SC / ST it is 45% in each part (36 of 80 and 9 of 20). A Graduate Marine Engineering holder is marked on the four-year Engineering degree. If many applicants turn up, DCI may make its own criteria to pick candidates and can change the selection method without notice. This means a good score in your degree matters a lot for TME/TELO, because it carries 80% of the marks. Fleet candidates are judged on the interview alone, so revise your certificates, sea service and watch keeping duties well.

TME/TELO candidates must carry original 10th certificate, degree mark sheets, CDC, INDOS, Passport and STCW certificates. Without documents you will not be allowed for the interview, and incomplete applications are summarily rejected. SC, ST, OBC and EWS candidates must bring the certificate in the prescribed format. OBC candidates also need a non-creamy-layer declaration. EWS candidates need a valid Income and Asset Certificate from the listed authorities, failing which their candidature will not be considered against EWS reservation. You hand in the filled format by hand at the venue. The notification gives no postal address and no online form, so nothing is sent by post. Do not carry only photocopies, because the notification asks for originals along with one self-attested set.
