DRDO Scientist B Eligibility Criteria 2025

Candidates must fulfill the following eligibility criteria to apply:

Essential Educational Qualification & GATE Score:

  • General Requirement: At least a First Class Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Technology in the relevant discipline OR a First Class Master’s Degree in Science in the relevant subject/discipline from a recognized university or equivalent. 
  • GATE Qualification: A valid GATE score in the corresponding GATE paper code as specified in Table 1 of the notification is mandatory for all disciplines. 
  • Final Year Students: Students who have appeared or are appearing in their final semester examinations and expect to achieve a first-class degree can also apply. They must submit their degree/provisional degree certificate by July 31, 2025. 
  • Foreign University Degrees: Candidates with degrees from foreign universities must obtain an equivalence certificate from the ‘Association of Indian Universities, Delhi’ by July 31, 2025. 
  • First Class Criteria: If an institute doesn’t specify criteria for First Class, 60% marks will be considered equivalent. For CGPA/CPI, if a conversion formula isn’t available, 6.75 (on a 10-point scale) will be taken as equivalent to 60%.

  • Computer Science & Engg: First Class Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/Technology in Computer Science & Engg or equivalent. Valid GATE score in Computer Science & Information Technology (CS). 
  • Physics: First Class Master’s Degree in Science in Physics or equivalent. Valid GATE score in Physics (PH). 
  • Chemistry: First Class Master’s Degree in Science in Chemistry or equivalent. Valid GATE score in Chemistry (CY). 
  • Clinical Psychology (AFMC): First Class Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology and registration with the Rehabilitation Council of India as a Clinical Psychologist. Valid GATE score in Humanities & Social Sciences (XH). 

Age Limit (as on closing date of advertisement):

  • Un Reserved (UR) /EWS: Not exceeding 35 years 
  • OBC (Non-creamy layer): Not exceeding 38 years 
  • SC/ST: Not exceeding 40 years 

Relaxation in Upper Age Limit (as per Govt. rules):

  • Up to 10 years for Divyangjan category candidates.

DRDO Scientist B Salary & Benefits 2025

  • Pay Level: The posts are in Level-10 (7th CPC) of the Pay Matrix. 
  • Basic Pay: Rs. 56,100/-. 
  • Total Emoluments: Approximately Rs. 1,00,000/- per month (inclusive of HRA and all other allowances) at the present metro city rate at the time of joining. 
  • Encadred Posts Emoluments: For encadred posts, emoluments will be paid by the respective Armed Services. 

DRDO Scientist B Selection Process 2025

The selection process for Scientist ‘B’ posts will involve two main stages:

  1. Shortlisting based on GATE Score:
    • Eligible candidates will be shortlisted based on their valid GATE scores in the ratio of 1:10, subject to availability, in order of discipline-wise and category-wise merit. 
    • Divyangjan candidates will be shortlisted similarly for DRDO vacancies reserved for them. 
    • Shortlisted candidates will need to confirm their willingness to appear for the Personal Interview and select tentative interview dates from the RAC website. 
  2. Personal Interview:
    • Shortlisted candidates will be required to appear for a Personal Interview to be held in Delhi or any other place decided by RAC/DRDO. 
    • Weightage: The final selection will be based on:
      • 80% weightage to the GATE score. 
      • 20% weightage to marks in the Personal Interview. 
    • Qualifying Marks in Interview: Candidates must secure minimum qualifying marks in the Personal Interview:
      • UR Category: 70% 
      • EWS/OBC/SC/ST/Divyangjan Category: 60% 
    • Candidates who do not qualify the interview will not be considered for final selection, irrespective of their GATE score. 
    • RAC may administer any other selection tool/test at its sole discretion. 
  3. Document Verification & Medical Examination:
    • The offer of appointment is subject to qualifying the Medical Examination prescribed for Group ‘A’ Technical posts of Govt. of India with Field Service liability and verification of Character & Antecedents, and caste/category certificates. 
    • Candidates may have to validate their GATE scores on the day of the interview by logging into the GATE Results portal.

Candidates must apply online through the RAC website. Follow these steps:

  1. Registration: Visit the RAC official website. Register yourself on the portal.
  2. Login and Fill Application Form: After successful registration, log in before the closing date to fill the online application form. 
  3. Upload Documents: Upload all requisite self-attested certificates and testimonials. These include:
    • Date of Birth proof (Matriculation/High School Certificate or Birth Certificate).

Important for Candidates in Government/PSU:

  • Candidates serving in Govt/Govt owned organizations must submit their applications online directly to RAC and intimate their Cadre Controlling Authority (CCA) to seek an NOC. 
  • Proof of submission of this intimation letter must be uploaded to the RAC website within 15 days of the closing date. The NOC must be produced during document verification or before the interview. 
  • Temporary employees unable to get an NOC should intimate their employer and provide an undertaking to resign if selected. The format for this Intimation-cum-Undertaking letter is available on the RAC website and proof of its submission must be uploaded within 30 days of the application closing date. 

DRDO Scientist B Application Fees 2025

  • General (UR), EWS, and OBC male candidates: Rs. 100/- (non-refundable, non-transferable), payable online only. 
  • SC/ST/Divyangjan and Women candidates: No application fee. 

Further General Instructions and Important Points

  • Candidates must ensure their eligibility regarding age, essential qualifications, etc., before applying. 
  • The GATE paper and subject of qualifying degree must align with the discipline-wise table in the notification. 
  • Be careful while filling in the GATE score, as shortlisting depends on this. Wrongly filled scores may lead to rejection.
