How Are Candidates Selected for GSSC Group C Posts 2026?

The selection process for GSSC Group C posts has three main stages:

Stage 1: Computer Based Test – I (CBT-I) — Screening

CBT-I is a common screening exam for all posts (Post No. 2 to 14). It carries 60 marks and the duration is 75 minutes. The subjects and marks distribution is:

  • Test of Reasoning – 10 marks
  • Test of Numerical Ability – 10 marks
  • Test of Konkani Language – 10 marks
  • Test of English & Comprehension – 30 marks

Important: There is no negative marking in CBT. Minimum passing marks are 45% for UR, 40% for OBC, and 35% for SC / ST candidates. You must score minimum 4 marks out of 10 in Konkani Language — this is compulsory (required to pass) for all candidates.

For Range Forest Officer (Post No. 1), GSSC will conduct a separate Two Tier CBT with a different syllabus.

Stage 2: Physical Endurance Test (PET) — Qualifying

After CBT-I, shortlisted candidates appear for PET. The PET is only qualifying — it does not carry any marks. Candidates are shortlisted at 20 times the number of vacancies for PET based on CBT-I merit.

Stage 3: Computer Based Test – II (CBT-II) — Final Merit

CBT-II is the final merit exam. The syllabus and marks vary by post group. Different post groups will have separate CBT-II exams. The final selection will be based on CBT-II marks.
