What Is the Selection Process for RRB ALP 2026?

The selection for RRB ALP typically involves multiple stages. Based on previous recruitment patterns, the expected process is:

Stage 1: Computer Based Test (CBT-1)

This is the screening stage. The exam tests candidates on Mathematics, General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Science, and General Awareness. The exam is usually of 75 questions in 60 minutes with 1/3 negative marking for wrong answers. For detailed topic-wise preparation, check the RRB ALP syllabus and exam pattern guide on GovtJobsAlert.in.

Stage 2: Computer Based Test (CBT-2)

Candidates who qualify CBT-1 appear for CBT-2, which has two parts — Part A (General subjects) and Part B (Trade-specific technical questions). Part B is qualifying in nature and tests your technical knowledge based on your educational qualification.

Stage 3: Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)

This stage tests psychological aptitude required for the ALP role. It checks memory, concentration, perception speed, and following directions — skills essential for operating a locomotive safely.

Stage 4: Document Verification & Medical Examination

Candidates who clear all stages are called for document verification and a thorough medical fitness test. Railway medical standards for ALP are strict, particularly for vision. The applicable medical standard is the one specified in the detailed CEN 01/2026 — check it there rather than relying on previous cycles.

Note: The exact selection process stages and exam pattern are set out in the detailed CEN 01/2026, published on the RRB websites.
