IREL Apprentice Recruitment 2026 Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification for IREL Apprentice 2026

  • Trade Apprentices: Must hold the relevant ITI certificate in the designated trade as mentioned in the vacancy table. For AAO(P), M.Sc (Chemistry) is required. For MLT, VHSE (MLT) is required.
  • Graduate Apprentices: B.Tech or BE degree in the relevant engineering discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Computer Science, Instrumentation, or Mining) from a recognized University/Institution.
  • Technician Apprentices: Diploma in the relevant discipline (Mechanical, Instrumentation, or Mining) from a recognized Polytechnic/Institution.
  • General Stream Executive: B.Com, BA, BBA, BSc, or BSc (Geology) from a recognized University.

Important: Qualifications acquired through Distance Learning, Part-Time, or Correspondence Mode will NOT be accepted. Candidates with higher qualifications such as ME/M.Tech, MCA, MBA, MSc, MA, M.Com, CA/ICWA, PhD, or LLB are NOT eligible (except AAO(P) which requires M.Sc). Candidates who have already undergone or are currently undergoing Apprenticeship training under the Apprentices Act, 1961 in any organization are also NOT eligible.

Age Limit for IREL Apprentice Recruitment 2026

  • Minimum Age: 18 years as on the last date of application (24 February 2026)
  • Maximum Age: 25 years as on the last date of application
  • Age Relaxation: SC/ST — up to 5 years | OBC (NCL) — up to 3 years | PWD — up to 10 years

IREL Apprentice 2026 Stipend and Benefits

Apprentices engaged at IREL (India) Limited, Chavara will receive a monthly stipend as prescribed under the Apprenticeship Rules, 1992 and as notified by the Government of India. The current minimum prescribed stipend rates are:

  • Graduate Apprentices (B.Tech/BE holders): ₹9,000 per month (minimum)
  • Technician Apprentices (Diploma holders): ₹8,000 per month (minimum)
  • Trade Apprentices (ITI holders): ₹7,000 per month (minimum)

For apprenticeships extending beyond one year, a 10% increase in stipend applies in the second year and a further 15% increase in the third year. During the training period, IREL will not provide any other benefits or financial assistance beyond the prescribed stipend.

IREL Apprentice 2026 Selection Process Explained

The selection of apprentices will be purely on the basis of merit — marks scored in the specified educational qualification — subject to being found “Medically Fit” by IREL’s Medical Officer.

Priority in Selection of Apprentices

The following priority order will be adopted:

  1. Candidates belonging to Land Affected Category (certificate from Resources Department required)
  2. Candidates from Mining area and peripheral villages within 10 KM radius of IREL Chavara unit
  3. Wards of serving IREL employees / Forum members
  4. Candidates belonging to Kollam District
  5. Candidates belonging to Kerala State
  6. Others

In case of a tie, higher marks in the qualifying exam will be considered. If still tied, seniority in date of birth will be the deciding factor. Shortlisted candidates will undergo a Medical Examination and must be declared “Medically Fit” before engagement.
