MECL Executive Trainee Eligibility Criteria 2025
Candidates aspiring to join MECL as Executive Trainees must fulfill specific eligibility conditions concerning educational qualifications and age limits as of April 23, 2025.
Essential Educational Qualifications
- For Executive Trainee (Geology):
- M.Sc/M.Tech./M.Sc.Tech. in Geology, Applied Geology, Earth Science, Exploration Geology, Mineral Exploration, or Geological Technology OR equivalent.

Age Relaxation Provisions
MECL provides relaxations in the upper age limit for various categories as per Government of India guidelines:
- SC/ST Candidates: Relaxable by 05 years.

MECL Executive Trainee Salary & Remuneration Package
Selected candidates will be offered an attractive remuneration package and benefits.
- Training Period: During the one-year training period, Executive Trainees will receive an initial Basic Pay of Rs. 40,000/- per month.
- Pay Scale: The trainees will be placed in the Pay Scale of Rs. 40,000-1,40,000/- (E-1) (I.D.A).

MECL Executive Trainee Selection Process 2025
The selection process for MECL Executive Trainees is streamlined and directly linked to the UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist Examination 2023.
- Eligibility for Application: This opportunity is specifically for individuals who cleared the Written Round of the Combined Geo-Scientist Examination 2023 conducted by UPSC but were not recommended for final selection by UPSC. Critically, applicants must have consented to sharing their marks information on the UPSC’s website.
- Merit List Preparation: Based on the applications received, MECL will prepare applicant lists in decreasing order of marks scored in the Combined Geo-Scientist Examination 2023 for each discipline (Geology & Geophysics), category-wise.
- Shortlisting: Candidates will be shortlisted based on their UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist Examination 2023 Written Examination score and fulfillment of other eligibility criteria as per MECL’s extant Recruitment Rules.
- No Separate Exam/Interview: Only the UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist Examination Score will be used for recruitment. No separate written examination and no separate personal interview will be held by MECL.
- Document Verification: Shortlisted candidates will be called for a document verification round. They must bring their original valid UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist Examination 2023 Written Test Result/Score card and other relevant documents.
- Offer of Employment: If documents are found suitable and match the advertisement criteria, offers of employment will be issued.

MECL Application Fees
- General, EWS, and OBC candidates: Rs. 500/-
- SC/ST/PwD/Ex-Serviceman/Departmental candidates: No fee applicable.
- Mode of Payment: Fees are to be paid through Online Payment/Net-Banking into the MECL Bank Account specified in official notification.
Security Deposit and Service Bond
Selected Executive Trainees will be subject to the following conditions:
- Service Bond: Upon appointment, an Executive/Executive Trainee must execute a bond of Rs. 1.8 Lakhs to serve the Company for a minimum period of 36 months.
- Retention Amount: A deduction of Rs. 5,000/- per month will be made from the salary as a retention amount (security deposit) against the bond. This amount is subject to PF deduction etc.
- Refund/Forfeiture:
- If an employee fails to serve the Company for the minimum 36-month period, the contributed retention amount will be forfeited. Additionally, the employee will have to deposit the balance of the bond amount after adjusting the deducted security deposit.
- Upon successful completion of 36 months of service, the total deducted amount will be refunded to the employee without any interest.
- In the event of the death of an Executive/Executive Trainee during the bond period, the deducted security deposit will be refunded (without interest) to the nominee.
Medical Fitness Requirements for MECL Trainees
Appointment as an Executive Trainee is subject to the candidate being declared medically fit by a Government Medical Officer or the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of a Government Hospital. This medical certification must be accompanied by the candidate’s self-declaration in the prescribed Company proforma. The medical fitness evaluation will include assessments such as general physical examination, vision and color blindness testing, hearing ability, cardiovascular health, respiratory function, and other tests as deemed necessary. Candidates with a valid PwD Certificate with benchmark disability will be examined accordingly.
Placement and Probation
- Training: Selected candidates will undergo a one-year training period.
- Posting: Trainee officers may be posted at any of MECL’s Projects, Offices, or Establishments across India.
- Probation: Appointees will be on probation for one year, which can be extended by a maximum of one additional year at the discretion of the Appointing Authority based on performance. During probation, services can be terminated without notice or reason.
- Confirmation: On satisfactory completion of probation, the position will be confirmed, but this is not automatic and requires a written order.
