The Bihar Technical Service Commission (BTSC) has issued important updates regarding the application deadlines for multiple posts.
- For Junior Engineer (JE): The application window for Junior Engineer (Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical) posts (Advt. Nos. 28-30/2025) has been re-opened from 22nd January 2026 to 30th January 2026.
- For Pump Operator & Work Inspector: In a recent notice dated 24.01.2026, the commission announced the extension for Work Inspector (Advt 31/2025) and Pump Operator (Advt 32/2025). Candidates can apply for these posts from 31st January 2026 to 08th February 2026.
Note: The cut-off date for the issuance/validity of required certificates remains unchanged (12.01.2026) for all posts.

Eligibility Criteria for BTSC Recruitment 2026
Candidates must meet the following educational and age criteria as on the cut-off date (01.08.2025).
Educational Qualification
- For Junior Engineer (Civil/Electrical/Mechanical):
- Must hold a Diploma in the relevant branch of Engineering (Civil/Electrical/Mechanical) conducted by the AICTE OR
- Non-Distance Mode Diploma from a UGC recognized University/Deemed University.
- For Pump Operator:
- Matriculation (10th Pass).
- AND ITI Certificate in Machinist or Fitter trade from a NCVT/SCVT recognized Institute.
- For Work Inspector:
- Matriculation (10th Pass).
- AND ITI Certificate in Machinist, Fitter, Wireman, or Electrician trade from a recognized Institute.
Age Limit (as on 01.08.2025)
- Minimum Age: 18 Years
- Maximum Age:
- Unreserved (Male): 37 Years
- Unreserved (Female): 40 Years
- BC/EBC (Male/Female): 40 Years
- SC/ST (Male/Female): 42 Years
- Age Relaxation: 10 Years for PwD candidates and 5 Years for regular Bihar Govt employees (with 3 years service).
Salary and Benefits
- Junior Engineer (JE): Pay Band-2 (₹9300-34800) + Grade Pay ₹4600/- (Revised Pay Level-7).
- Pump Operator & Work Inspector: Pay Level-2 (As per 7th Pay Commission).
- Allowances: Employees are entitled to DA, HRA, Medical Allowances, etc., as per Bihar Government rules.
Selection Process & Exam Pattern
The selection criteria vary slightly between Diploma and ITI posts.
1. For Junior Engineer (JE) Posts:
- Written Exam (CBT): Weightage 75 Marks.
- Questions: 100 Questions (All Domain/Subject Specific based on Diploma Syllabus).
- Duration: 2 Hours.
- Negative Marking: 0.25 marks deducted for every wrong answer.
- Normalization: Applicable for multi-shift exams.
- Experience: Weightage 25 Marks (5 marks per year, max 25 marks) for contract experience in Bihar Govt departments.
- Total Merit Calculation: Based on 100 Marks scale.
2. For Pump Operator & Work Inspector Posts:
- Written Exam (CBT): 100 Marks.
- Trade Syllabus (60 Qs): Questions from ITI Trade (Machinist/Fitter/Wireman/Electrician).
- General Syllabus (40 Qs): 20 Questions from General Knowledge + 20 Questions from General Math (Matric Level).
- Duration: 2 Hours.
- Negative Marking: 0.25 marks deducted for wrong answers.
- Merit List: Prepared based on the CBT score (Normalization applicable).
