CSIR NGRI Recruitment 2025: Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must ensure they fulfill all eligibility conditions as of the last date for online application submission (June 30, 2025). 

Essential Qualifications:

  • Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA) (Post Code: JSA):
    • 10+2/XII or its equivalent. 
    • Proficiency in computer type speed and in using computer as per prescribed norms fixed by DoPT from time to time (currently 35 w.p.m. in English or 30 w.p.m. in Hindi). This corresponds to 10500 KDPH/9000 KDPH on an average of 5 key depressions for each word. 
    • Note: A 3-year diploma acquired after 10th standard is treated as equivalent to 12th standard if the diploma is a recognized course from a recognized institution. 
  • Junior Stenographer (Post Code: JSG):
    • 10+2/XII or its equivalent. 
    • Proficiency in stenography as per prescribed norms fixed by DoPT from time to time. This involves one dictation for 10 minutes in English or Hindi (as opted by the candidate) at a speed of 80 w.p.m. in shorthand, with transcription time of 50 minutes in English or 65 minutes in Hindi. 

Age Limit (as on 30.06.2025):

  • Junior Secretariat Assistant (Gen): Not exceeding 28 years. 
  • Junior Stenographer: Not exceeding 27 years. 
  • The minimum age for all applicants is 18 years as on the last date of submission of the online application. 
  • Age Relaxations: Details on age relaxations for various categories (EWS, SC/ST, OBC, PwBD, Ex-Servicemen, CSIR Departmental Candidates, Widows, divorced women, etc.) are applicable as per Government of India/CSIR rules. For instance:
    • PwBD: Age relaxation of 10 years for Unreserved (15 years for SC/ST and 13 years for OBC). This is applicable if the post is identified as suitable for the relevant disability category and the disability is not less than 40%. 
    • Ex-Servicemen (EXS): Upper age limit is relaxable by 03 years after deduction of the military service rendered. 
    • CSIR Departmental Candidates (Regular Employees): No age limit, provided they possess the prescribed qualifications. 
    • Widows, divorced women and women judicially separated (not re-married): Up to 35 years (40 years for SC/ST for reserved posts).

CSIR NGRI JSA & Steno Salary & Benefits

Selected candidates will be entitled to the following:

Pay Scale:

  • Junior Secretariat Assistant (Gen): Level – 02 of Pay Matrix as per VII CPC (₹19900 to ₹63200). 
  • Junior Stenographer: Level – 04 of Pay Matrix as per VII CPC (₹25500 to ₹81100). 

Total Emoluments:

  • Junior Secretariat Assistant (Gen): Approximately ₹38,907/-* p.m. (including HRA in Class ‘X’ City). 
  • Junior Stenographer: Approximately ₹52,755/-* p.m. (including HRA in Class ‘X’ City). 

Other Benefits:

  • Usual allowances like Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), and Transport Allowance (TA) as admissible to central government employees and as applicable to CSIR employees. 
  • Entitlement to accommodation as per CSIR Residence Allotment Rules (HRA not applicable if accommodation is provided). 
  • Reimbursement of Medical Expenses, Leave Travel Concession, and Children’s Education Allowances as per CSIR/Govt. of India rules.

CSIR NGRI Selection Process 2025

The selection procedure will differ for each post:

For Junior Secretariat Assistant (Gen) (Post Code: JSA):

  1. Screening: Candidates fulfilling eligibility criteria will be recommended by a Screening Committee. 
  2. Proficiency in Typing Test: This will be conducted on computers and is qualifying in nature. 
    • English: 35 w.p.m. (10500 KDPH) 
    • Hindi: 30 w.p.m. (9000 KDPH) 
    • Time allowed: 10 minutes. 
  3. Open Competitive Written Examination: This will consist of two papers. 
    • Paper-I (Mental Ability Test): 100 questions, 200 marks (2 marks per correct answer), 90 minutes. No negative marking. This paper is qualifying in nature. 
      • Syllabus includes General Intelligence, Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning, Problem Solving, Situational Judgement, etc. 
    • Paper-II (General Awareness & English Language): 60 minutes. 
      • General Awareness: 50 questions, 150 marks (3 marks per correct answer). 
      • English Language: 50 questions, 150 marks (3 marks per correct answer). 
      • Negative Marking: One negative mark for every wrong answer in Paper-II. 
    • The medium of questions will be English and Hindi, except for the English language questions. Standard of exam will be Class XII. 
  4. Merit List: Paper-II will be evaluated only for candidates who secure minimum threshold marks in Paper-I. The final merit list will be based on performance in Paper-II, for candidates who qualify the typing test. 

For Junior Stenographer (Post Code: JSG):

  1. Screening: Candidates fulfilling eligibility criteria will be recommended by a Screening Committee. 
  2. Proficiency Test in Stenography: This is qualifying in nature. 
    • Dictation: 10 minutes in English or Hindi (as opted) at 80 w.p.m. 
    • Transcription Time:
      • English: 50 minutes (70 minutes for eligible scribes). 
      • Hindi: 65 minutes (90 minutes for eligible scribes). 
  3. Open Competitive Written Examination: This will consist of one paper with three parts. 
    • Total Questions: 200. 
    • Total Time: 2 hours (2 hours and 40 minutes for eligible scribes). 
    • Standard of Exam: 10+2/XII. 
    • Medium of Questions: English and Hindi, except for English Language & Comprehension. 
    • Parts:
      • Part I: General Intelligence & Reasoning – 50 questions, 50 marks. 
      • Part II: General Awareness – 50 questions, 50 marks. 
      • Part III: English Language & Comprehension – 100 questions, 100 marks. 
    • Negative Marking: 0.25 marks deducted for every wrong answer. 
  4. Merit List: The final merit list will be prepared based on the performance in the competitive written examination for candidates who qualify the stenography test. 

The actual sequence of conducting the Proficiency Test and Written Examination will be decided by CSIR-NGRI and notified on its website. The examination will be held in Hyderabad only

Application Fees for CSIR NGRI JSA & Steno Vacancy

  • Exempted Categories: SC/ST/PwBD/Women/Ex-Servicemen are exempted from payment of application fee, subject to uploading relevant supporting documents.
