NSRY Sri Vijaya Puram Apprentice Recruitment 2026: 50 Vacancies, ITI Eligibility, Merit List & Interview Process

The Naval Ship Repair Yard (NSRY), Sri Vijaya Puram — under the Andaman and Nicobar Command, Ministry of Defence (Navy) — has published Advertisement No. NSRY(SVP)/IT03/26 in the Employment News issue dated 15–21 August 2026 for 50 apprentice seats across 13 designated trades. This is the Technician (Vocational) Apprentice Programme (IT-03 Batch, 2026-27), a one-year training programme at the Apprentice Training School inside the naval dockyard.

Two things make this notification unusually attractive. First, there is no upper age limit at all — the minimum is 18 years and nothing more. Second, there is no application fee and no written examination. Selection is based on a trade-wise merit list drawn from your ITI and Class 10 marks, followed by an interview of 50 marks. Online applications close at 2359 hrs on 10 October 2026. Read the full details below, and keep GovtJobsAlert.in with you for every defence job notification.

What is the Age Limit and Eligibility for Indian Navy Apprentice 2026?

Educational Qualification

  • Matriculation (Class 10) pass, followed by an ITI certificate in the respective trade under NCVT or SCVT.
  • The eligible ITI trade for each designated trade is specified in the notification. For example, the Pipe Fitter post requires an ITI in Plumber, Shipwright (Wood) requires ITI in Carpenter, and PASAA requires ITI in Computer Operator & Programming Assistant.
  • The ICTSM trade accepts ITI in ICTSM, ITESM, or Broad Based Basic Training in the IT Sector under the Centre of Excellence Scheme in Repair & Maintenance of Computers and Peripherals.

Only Indian nationals may apply. Since this is a defence establishment, applications from candidates with questionable antecedents are summarily rejected, and candidature is cancelled if police verification does not give a clean report. Candidates who have already undergone or are currently undergoing apprenticeship training are not eligible. Browse more openings on our ITI government jobs page.

Age Limit

This is the best part of this notification for many readers.

  • Minimum age: 18 years, reckoned as on one day before the date of commencement of training
  • Maximum age: No upper age limit for apprenticeship training, as per the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship office memorandum dated 20 December 2021

🎂 Not sure if you meet the age criteria? Use our free Age Calculator for Government Exams to find your exact age on the cut-off date and instantly check your eligibility — including SC / ST / OBC / PwBD age relaxation. →

Because there is no upper age cap, no age relaxation table is published — and none is needed. If you completed your ITI years ago and thought you had missed the bus on apprenticeships, this notification is genuinely open to you.

What is the Salary and Stipend for Indian Navy Apprentice 2026?

Let us be straightforward about this rather than repeat a figure that is not in the advertisement.

Paragraph 4 of the notification states only that “the apprentices will be paid monthly stipend in accordance with Apprenticeship Rules, 1992 or as revised by Government from time to time.” No rupee amount is printed anywhere in the advertisement.

  • Stipend: as per the Apprenticeship Rules, 1992 — no fixed figure published in this notification
  • Condition: payment is subject to registration on the online apprenticeship portal and execution of a valid apprenticeship contract
  • Not covered: the notification specifies that no travel expenses and no boarding or lodging are provided

You will also be issued a clothing set during training, and on completing the post-training trade test you receive the National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) from the DGT — a nationally recognised credential that opens up further technical roles.

What is the Selection Process for Indian Navy Apprentice Recruitment 2026?

There is no written examination. Selection is a merit list followed by an interview.

Stage 1: Preliminary Merit List

A merit list is drawn trade-wise and category-wise on the basis of your aggregate percentage of marks in the ITI trade and Class 10. So your existing marksheets decide whether you get called.

Stage 2: Interview (50 Marks)

Shortlisted candidates are called to the Apprentice Training School at NSRY, Sri Vijaya Puram for an interview carrying 50 marks, during which you are tested on technical skills in your respective trade. The final merit list is prepared on interview marks. If two candidates tie, the elder candidate is placed higher; if still tied, alphabetical order of the name as recorded in the Class 10 certificate decides. Call letters are issued by email only to your registered email ID, so check your inbox regularly. Prepare with the help of our exam and interview preparation resources.

Stage 3: Document Verification and Medical

You must produce all original documents for verification before registration, and clear the required medical standards. Selected candidates then execute an apprenticeship contract on the national apprenticeship portal under the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS). Read that contract carefully — if the yard fails to honour its terms you are paid compensation under the Apprentices Act, 1961, and equally, if you leave the training of your own accord you are liable to pay compensation to the employer as determined by the Central Apprenticeship Adviser.

How to Apply Online for Indian Navy Apprentice Recruitment 2026?

Applications are accepted online only — no physical form is accepted. Keep all documents scanned in colour PDF, A4 size, each file under 200 KB before you begin.

  1. Visit the Navy apprenticeship application portal (direct link given in the Essential Links section below).
  2. Register online and open the application form for the IT-03 Batch apprentice programme.
  3. Fill in your personal details, trade preference and a valid email ID that you check regularly.
  4. Upload a passport-size photograph on a blue background (3.5 cm × 4.5 cm, JPEG, under 200 KB).
  5. Upload your Class 10 marksheet along with proof of date of birth — birth certificate or Aadhaar card.
  6. Upload your ITI certificate with the final consolidated marksheet from NCVT or SCVT.
  7. Upload your community certificate, disability certificate or ex-servicemen certificate if you are claiming reservation, and your Aadhaar card, which is compulsory for every applicant.
  8. Submit the application before 2359 hrs on 10 October 2026 and save a copy for your record.

Documents must be good quality and readable — poor scans are a common reason for rejection at the scrutiny stage. The notification also rejects candidature outright for submitting more than one application, for a photograph with a cap or goggles or an unclear face, and for any mismatch of name, father’s name or date of birth between the form and your Class 10 or ITI certificate.
