IndianOil Northern Region Apprentice 2026 Notification: 433 Seats, State-Wise Split and Merit-Based Selection
IndianOil Corporation Limited (Marketing Division), Northern Region has released advertisement IOCL/MKTG/NR/APPR/2026-27/1 for the engagement of 433 apprentices under the Apprentices Act, 1961. Seats are spread across nine States and UTs — Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Uttarakhand. The best part for nervous candidates is that there is no written test and no interview at all. Selection is purely on the percentage of marks in your qualifying exam. If you have been tracking PSU job openings, this is one of the largest apprentice intakes of the season.
Applications opened on 7 August 2026 at 10:00 AM and close on 6 September 2026 at 5:00 PM. Whether you have passed Class 12th, hold an ITI certificate, a 3-year engineering Diploma, or a graduation degree, there is a discipline code for you. One important warning before you start — the application is a three-step process and missing any one step means your form is not counted. We explain all three steps clearly below. Keep GovtJobsAlert.in open beside you while filling the form.

IOCL NR Apprentice 2026 Vacancy List: How Many Seats in Each State?
The 433 seats split across four apprentice groups as follows.
| Apprentice Category | Seats |
|---|---|
| Technician Apprentice (Codes 101-106) | 156 |
| Trade Apprentice — ITI (Codes 107-111) | 104 |
| Graduate Apprentice (Code 112) | 104 |
| Trade Apprentice — Data Entry Operator (Codes 113, 114) | 69 |
| Total | 433 |
Here is how the same 433 seats are distributed state by state.
| State / UT | Vacancies |
|---|---|
| Uttar Pradesh | 121 |
| Rajasthan | 76 |
| Punjab | 57 |
| Delhi | 50 |
| Haryana | 37 |
| Chandigarh | 30 |
| Himachal Pradesh | 22 |
| Jammu & Kashmir | 20 |
| Uttarakhand | 20 |
| Total | 433 |
Treat 433 as provisional — the notification calls these the “provisional number of seats” with “likely” reservation, and says filling them is solely at the management’s discretion, with no claim arising if some go unfilled. The all-India community-wise split is UR 234, EWS 31, SC 71, ST 9 and OBC-NCL 88. One catch the notification is explicit about: these relaxations apply only against seats reserved for that category. An SC, ST or OBC-NCL candidate applying against an Unreserved (UR) seat is judged by the standards applicable to General candidates, including the un-relaxed age limit of 24 years. PwBD candidates get 10 seats, counted horizontally inside the totals, and these are available only for discipline codes 112, 113 and 114 — PwBD candidates are explicitly not eligible for codes 101 to 111.
Who is Eligible for IOCL NR Apprentice Recruitment 2026?
Educational Qualification
The required qualification depends on the discipline code you choose. For the Diploma codes (101-106) and the Graduate code (112) you need minimum 50% marks in aggregate for General, EWS and OBC-NCL candidates and 45% for SC, ST and PwBD candidates against reserved positions, from an institute or university recognised by AICTE or UGC. For the ITI trades (codes 107-111) the notification says eligibility is simply pass marks, and for the Data Entry Operator codes (113 and 114) no percentage is prescribed at all.
- Technician Apprentice (codes 101-106): 3-year regular full-time Diploma in Engineering — Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Civil, Electrical & Electronics, or Electronics.
- Trade Apprentice — ITI (codes 107-111): Matric plus a regular full-time 2-year ITI certificate in the notified trade (Fitter, Electrician, Electronics Mechanic, Instrument Mechanic or Machinist), recognised by NCVT or SCVT.
- Graduate Apprentice (code 112): A regular full-time graduation degree in any discipline (BBA / BA / B.Com. / B.Sc.). Candidates who already hold — or are currently pursuing — a higher professional qualification such as B.E./B.Tech, MBA, MCA, CA, ICWA or LLB are NOT eligible, and a declaration to that effect is taken at the time of joining.
- Trade Apprentice — Data Entry Operator (codes 113, 114): Class 12th pass (but below graduate). For code 114 you additionally need a Skill Certificate of Domestic Data Entry Operator issued by an awarding body recognised under the National Skill Qualifications Framework.
- Applies to every discipline code: if five years or more have passed since you acquired the prescribed qualification (as per your last semester or year marksheet) as on 31 August 2026, you are not eligible — under both NATS and NAPS. Separately, Diploma and Vocational Certificate holders with one year or more of job experience after obtaining that qualification are also not eligible.
If you are an ITI certificate holder or a diploma engineer, check the discipline table in the PDF carefully — you can apply for only ONE discipline code. Applying for more than one leads to summary rejection.
Age Limit
You must be minimum 18 years and maximum 24 years as on 31 August 2026.
| Category | Age Relaxation |
|---|---|
| SC / ST | 5 years (up to 29 years) |
| OBC-NCL | 3 years (up to 27 years) |
| PwBD (General) | 10 years |
| PwBD (OBC-NCL) | 13 years |
| PwBD (SC/ST) | 15 years |

What is the Salary and Stipend for IOCL NR Apprentice 2026?
Let us be straight with you about the money, because this is where most candidates get misled by rumours.
The notification does not print any rupee figure for the base stipend. It states that the rate of stipend payable will be in accordance with the Apprentices Act, 1961, the Apprentices Rules, 1992 and applicable amendments issued from time to time. The only stipend figure the notification actually prints is this:
In addition to the statutory stipend, apprentices are paid ₹2,500 per month towards miscellaneous expenses by IndianOil Corporation Limited (MD), Northern Region.
How the money reaches you also differs by apprentice type:
- Graduate and Technician Apprentices: a portion of the stipend is disbursed directly to your bank account by BOAT under the Direct Benefit Transfer scheme.
- Trade Apprentices (NAPS): receive the stipend in full from IndianOil itself.
Separately, up to ₹3,000 is reimbursed for the pre-engagement medical tests, on production of receipts. Do keep in mind that apprenticeship is training, not employment — the notification states plainly that the Corporation has no obligation to offer regular employment, and an apprentice cannot claim a right to employment on the grounds of having completed the training.
What is the Selection Process for IOCL NR Apprentice 2026?
Stage 1: Merit List — No Exam, No Interview
There is no written test and no interview. A merit list is prepared purely on the percentage of marks secured in the prescribed qualification for the discipline code you applied against. Your existing marksheet is your entire application.
Stage 2: Tie-Breaker Rule
If two candidates score the same percentage, the older candidate (earlier date of birth) is preferred. If dates of birth are also the same, the candidate with the higher matriculation percentage wins the tie. Preference is also given to candidates applying for apprenticeship training for the first time. Repeat apprentices face hard limits, not just a lower preference: you may undergo a maximum of two apprenticeship trainings, the second must not be in the same trade, and there must be a minimum one-year gap. If your earlier contract was already approved by BOAT on the NATS portal, BOAT (NR) will not permit a second contract at all.
Stage 3: Document Verification
Shortlisted candidates are called for document verification, intimated on their registered email ID. Carry your Matriculation (Class X) marksheet — the notification accepts it as the only proof of age — along with your qualifying certificate and category certificates.
Stage 4: Pre-Engagement Medical Fitness Test
Finally you must clear IndianOil’s pre-engagement medical standard. Candidates clearing both document verification and the medical are issued the offer of engagement for apprenticeship training. While you wait, you can look through our preparation resources for other exams.
