This is one of the most attractive parts of the NRL recruitment. The salary structure is excellent and offers great financial security. During the one-year training period, Graduate Engineer Trainees (GETs) will receive a fixed stipend of ₹50,000 per month, and Assistant Officer Trainees (AOTs) will get ₹40,000 per month.
After successfully completing the training, you will be placed in the officer grade. The pay scale for a GET (Grade E-2) is ₹50,000 – ₹1,60,000, and for an AOT (Grade E-1) is ₹40,000 – ₹1,40,000. But that’s not all. Your total earnings, or Cost to Company (CTC), will be much higher. The approximate CTC for a Grade E-2 officer is ₹18.79 Lakhs per year, and for a Grade E-1 officer, it’s ₹15.34 Lakhs per year. This CTC includes your Basic Pay, Industrial Dearness Allowance (IDA), Performance Related Pay (PRP), and other perks and allowances like House Rent Allowance (HRA), making it a highly competitive package.
NRL Recruitment Selection Process Explained
The selection process is designed to be fair and transparent, consisting of two main stages.
Stage 1: Computer Based Test (CBT)
All eligible applicants will be called for an online Computer Based Test. The test will have objective-type multiple-choice questions, and the best part is there is no negative marking.
- For Graduate Engineer Trainees (GETs): The test will have 4 sections.
- Section A: Subject Knowledge (related to your engineering discipline) – 80% weightage.
- Section B: General Knowledge/Current Affairs.
- Section C: Knowledge of English Language.
- Section D: Reasoning & Numerical Ability.
- For Assistant Officer Trainees (AOTs): The test will have 3 sections.
- Section A: General Knowledge with questions on Indian and World Energy Scenario – 60% weightage.
- Section B: Reasoning and Numerical Ability.
- Section C: Knowledge of English Language.
Stage 2: Personal Interview
Candidates who perform well in the CBT will be shortlisted for a Personal Interview. The ratio of candidates called for the interview will be 1:5 (five candidates for every one vacancy). You must score at least 50% marks in both the CBT and the Personal Interview separately to be considered for the final merit list. The final selection will be based on your combined performance, with 85% weightage given to the CBT score and 15% to the Personal Interview.
