PSTCL Eligibility Criteria 2025

Educational Qualification

  • Knowledge of Punjabi: Knowledge of Punjabi is essential for all posts. Candidates must have passed Punjabi of at least Matriculation (10th) or its equivalent level.
  • Post-Wise Qualification:
    • Assistant Engineer (OT)/Electrical: Full-time regular B.E./B.Tech/B.Sc Engineering in Electrical/Electrical & Electronics Engineering with at least 55% marks.
    • Assistant Manager/IT: Full-time regular B.E./B.Tech/B.Sc Engineering in Computer Science/IT with 60% marks OR Full-time regular MCA or Master’s in IT with 60% marks.
    • Accounts Officer: CA/CWA/CMA.
    • Divisional Accountant: Full-time regular B.Com with 60% marks OR Full-time regular M.Com with 50% marks OR CA Inter/CWA Inter/CMA Inter.

    • LDC/Accounts: Full-time regular Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) with 50% marks AND a 120-hour course in computer (or ‘O’ level certificate).
    • Assistant Lineman (ALM): 10th Pass and National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) in Lineman Trade.
    • Assistant Sub-Station Attendant (ASSA): Full-time regular ITI in Electrical/Electrician/Wireman trade with 60% marks AND 1-year apprenticeship experience OR Full-time regular Diploma in Electrical/Electronics & Communication/Instrumentation with 60% marks.
    • Electrician Grade-II: Matric with regular ITI in any branch of Electrical discipline with 60% marks OR Diploma in Electrical Engineering with 50% marks.

Age Relaxation

Age relaxation is applicable only for candidates with Punjab Domicile, as per government rules:

  • SC/ST and Backward Class: 5 years (up to 42 years)
  • Physically Handicapped: 10 years (up to 47 years)
  • Widows, Divorced Women, etc.: Upper age limit is 40 years.
  • Existing PSTCL/PSPCL/Punjab Govt. Employees: Relaxable up to the extent of service rendered, max 45 years.

Salary and Benefits in PSTCL

PSTCL offers attractive pay scales as per the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC). The pay scale varies depending on the post.

  • Pay Scale ₹47,600/-: For posts like Assistant Engineer (OT)/Electrical, Assistant Manager/IT, and Accounts Officer.
  • Pay Scale ₹35,400/-: For posts like Divisional Accountant, Junior Engineer (all streams), and Law Officer Grade-II.
  • Pay Scale ₹19,900/-: For posts like Telephone Mechanic, LDC/Typist, LDC/Accounts, Assistant Lineman (ALM), Assistant Sub-Station Attendant (ASSA), and Electrician Grade-II.

It is important to note that as per Punjab Government instructions, newly appointed candidates will be on probation for 3 years. During this period, they will be paid the “minimum admissible pay” for the post. This pay will not include any Dearness Allowance (DA), annual increments, or other allowances, except for Medical Reimbursement and Travelling Allowance as per entitlement. After the successful completion of the probation period, candidates will be eligible for the full pay scale, including all allowances.

Selection Process Explained

The selection for all posts will be based on an Online Computer-Based Test (CBT), followed by document checking for the shortlisted candidates. The exam pattern is different for Group A/B posts and Group C posts.

For Group ‘A’ & ‘B’ Posts (AE, AO, AM/IT, DA, JE, Law Officer)

The online test will be a single exam of 100 questions.

  • Concerned Subject: 50 questions
  • Punjabi Language Knowledge: 20 questions
  • General Knowledge/Awareness: 10 questions
  • Logical Reasoning/Quantitative Aptitude: 10 questions
  • General English: 10 questions
  • Marking: Each question carries 1 mark. There will be negative marking of 0.25 (1/4th) for every wrong answer.
  • Qualifying Marks: 50% for General Category and 40% for Reserve Category.

For Group ‘C’ Posts (ALM, ASSA, Electrician, LDC, Tele-Mechanic)

The test for these posts will have two parts.

  • Part-I: Qualifying Test of Punjabi Language
    • This part is mandatory and qualifying in nature.
    • It will have 50 objective questions on Punjabi Language.
    • Candidates MUST score at least 50% (i.e., 25 marks) to pass.
    • There is no negative marking in Part-I.
    • If you do not pass Part-I, your Part-II exam will not be evaluated.
  • Part-II: Main Test
    • The merit list will be prepared only based on the marks scored in Part-II.
    • This part will have 100 objective questions (1 mark each) with 0.25 negative marking.
    • The exam pattern for Part-II varies slightly:
    • For LDC/Typist:
      • General Knowledge: 20 questions
      • Punjabi Language Knowledge: 20 questions
      • Basic Computer Knowledge: 20 questions
