What is the Selection Process for SBI PO 2026?

The selection happens in three phases. You can check the full exam pattern and syllabus details to plan your preparation the right way.

Phase 1: Preliminary Examination

This is an online objective test of 100 marks to be completed in 1 hour, with separate timing of 20 minutes for each section — English Language (40 questions), Quantitative Aptitude (30 questions) and Reasoning Ability (30 questions). The Prelims is only qualifying in nature, which means these marks are not added to the final merit list.

Phase 2: Main Examination

The Mains has an objective test of 200 marks (170 questions, 3 hours) plus a descriptive test of 30 marks (30 minutes). The objective part has four sections: Reasoning & Computer Aptitude (60 marks), Data Analysis & Interpretation (60 marks), General/Economy/Banking Awareness (60 marks) and English Language (20 marks). The descriptive test checks your communication skills through email and report/essay writing typed on the computer.

Phase 3: Psychometric Test, Group Exercise & Interview

Candidates who clear the Mains are called for the final phase. It includes a Psychometric Test, a Group Exercise (20 marks) and a Personal Interview (30 marks). Remember, there is a negative marking of 0.25 marks for every wrong answer in the objective tests. The final merit gives 75% weight to the Main exam and 25% weight to the Group Exercise and Interview — Prelims marks are not counted.
