UKPSC Veterinary Officer (Pashu Chikitsa Adhikari) Vacancy 2026: Eligibility, Exam Pattern and Last Date

The Uttarakhand Public Service Commission (UKPSC) has invited online applications for 25 Veterinary Officer (Pashu Chikitsa Adhikari) posts in the state Animal Husbandry Department. This is a Group ‘B’ Gazetted post on Pay Level-10, ₹56,100 – ₹1,77,500, and the merit list is built from a written examination. If you are a veterinary graduate hunting for government jobs in Uttarakhand, very few notifications ask for exactly your degree the way this one does. Advertisement A-2/DR(VO)/S-1/2026 carries 20 general recruitment posts and 5 special (backlog) posts.

The application window is open from 25 August 2026 to 14 September 2026 (up to 11:59:59 PM), and there is a separate correction window later if you make a mistake. But please read the eligibility part slowly — this recruitment has two gates, not one, and the second gate stops a lot of good candidates. In this article we have put the vacancy split, the eligibility, the age rules, the full exam pattern, the fee and the conditions that can cancel your form, all in one place. Keep GovtJobsAlert.in open while you fill the form.

What is the Category-wise Vacancy Breakdown for UKPSC Veterinary Officer 2026?

The 25 posts come from two separate lists — a general recruitment list of 20 and a special (backlog) list of 5. Look at the row for your own category, because the special list is not open to everyone.

Recruitment TypeCategoryVacancies
General RecruitmentUnreserved13
General RecruitmentScheduled Caste2
General RecruitmentScheduled Tribe0
General RecruitmentOther Backward Class3
General RecruitmentEconomically Weaker Section2
General RecruitmentAll categories combined20
Special Recruitment (Backlog)Scheduled Caste1
Special Recruitment (Backlog)Divyang / PwBD against Unreserved (02 LV/PB + 02 HH/PD)4
Special Recruitment (Backlog)All categories combined5
Grand TotalAll categories25

There is no Scheduled Tribe seat in the general recruitment list. The horizontal (sub-category) seats below are counted inside the 20 general recruitment posts — they are not extra posts.

Horizontal Sub-CategorySeats within the 20 General Posts
Uttarakhand Women (30%)6 (Unreserved 4, SC 1, OBC 1)
Uttarakhand State Movement agitators or their dependents (10%)2 (Unreserved)
Uttarakhand Ex-servicemen (5%)1 (Unreserved)
Orphan children of Uttarakhand (5%)1 (Unreserved)
Dependents of Uttarakhand freedom fighters (2%)0
Skilled sportspersons of Uttarakhand (4%)0
Divyang / PwBD (4%) in general recruitment0

Reservation — both vertical and horizontal — is given only to candidates who are domiciles of Uttarakhand. If you belong to SC, ST, OBC, EWS, or to any sub-category such as women, ex-servicemen, orphan children or Divyang but you are not a domicile of Uttarakhand, you will be treated as an unreserved candidate. That means the general cut-off, the general fee and no age relaxation. This single rule decides whether this notification is worth your time, so settle it before you pay.

What is the Eligibility Criteria for UKPSC Veterinary Officer 2026?

RequirementDetail
Essential degreeBachelor’s degree in Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry (B.V.Sc. & A.H.) from a university established by law in India and recognised by the Veterinary Council of India, or an equivalent degree from an institution recognised by the Government, or any veterinary qualification defined in Section 2(c) of the Indian Veterinary Council Act, 1984
Accepted equivalent degrees (15 in all)B.V.Sc.; B.Sc. (Vety.); Graduate in Veterinary Science; Graduate in Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry; Graduate of Bengal Veterinary College; Graduate of Bihar Veterinary College; Graduate of Mumbai Veterinary College; Graduate of Madras Veterinary College; Graduate of the Madras Veterinary Mahavidyalaya; M.R.C.V.S.; B.V. Med.; B.V.M.; DVM; B.Sc. (Veterinary); B.V.A.Sc.
Mandatory registrationThe candidate must be duly registered with the Uttarakhand Veterinary Council
Preferential qualificationOther things being equal, preference goes to a PG degree / diploma or higher qualification in Veterinary Science, or two years of Territorial Army service, or an NCC ‘B’ or ‘C’ certificate
Qualification cut-offYou must already hold the qualification on 14 September 2026; the date is taken from the marksheet issuing date or the result declaration date
NationalityIndian citizen, or a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 01 January 1962, or a person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda or Tanzania to settle permanently in India, subject to an eligibility certificate

That second row is the one to pause on. Holding a veterinary degree is not enough here — registration with the Uttarakhand Veterinary Council is a separate, compulsory condition, and the registration certificate is asked for at document verification. Many perfectly good vets from other states apply, clear the paper, and then cannot produce this certificate. If you are a healthcare or veterinary graduate planning to apply, start the Council registration now rather than after the result.

What is the Age Limit for UKPSC Pashu Chikitsa Adhikari 2026?

CriterionAge Rule / Relaxation
Age reckoning dateCalculated as on 01 July 2026
Date of birth must beAfter 01 July 2005 and not before 02 July 1984
Minimum age (all candidates)21 years
Unreserved42 years
Uttarakhand SC, ST and OBC5 years relaxation
Dependents of Uttarakhand freedom fighters5 years relaxation
Uttarakhand Divyang (PwBD)5 years relaxation
Uttarakhand Ex-servicemenUp to 5 years, based on length of service
Economically Weaker Section (EWS)No age relaxation

🎂 Not sure if you meet the age criteria? Use our free Age Calculator for Government Exams to find your exact age on the cut-off date and instantly check your eligibility — including any age relaxation you qualify for. →

Two catches here. First, no age relaxation of any kind is admissible under the EWS category — EWS candidates get the fee and the seats, but not extra years. Second, if you claim more than one sub-category you get the benefit of only one, whichever suits you better. Ex-servicemen released within the next six months can also claim relaxation, but it is not available to anyone dismissed for misconduct or inefficiency, or released for a physical disability treated as a demerit in army service.

What is the Selection Process for UKPSC Veterinary Officer 2026?

StageDetail
Written examinationObjective type with multiple choice, three papers, 800 marks, at examination centres in Haridwar and Haldwani (only Haridwar if the number of candidates is low)
Merit / proficiency listPrepared only from the marks of the written examination, subject to the minimum qualifying marks of your claimed category
Document verificationScrutiny of educational, reservation and other certificates for provisionally successful candidates
Medical fitnessFor a gazetted post you must pass the examination of the Medical Council; appointment is subject to physical and mental fitness

Negative marking applies: one-fourth (1/4) of the marks of a question is deducted for every wrong answer. Marking more than one option counts as a wrong answer even if one of them is correct, and there is no penalty for a question you leave blank. Paper-I leans heavily on Uttarakhand history, culture, geography and current affairs, so build that section from state sources rather than generic notes — our exam syllabus and pattern guides can help you plan the order.

Twenty-five gazetted posts decided purely on written marks is a clean, merit-only chance. Get your form in well before 14 September 2026 rather than on the last evening, because state portals slow down badly in the final hours.
