Eligibility Criteria — CSIR UGC NET June 2026

Educational Qualification

You must hold ONE of the following from a UGC-recognised University or Institute:

  • M.Sc. or equivalent science degree with minimum 55% marks (50% for OBC-NCL / SC / ST / PwD / PwBD / Third Gender)
  • 4-year / 8-semester Bachelor’s degree with minimum 75% marks (70% for reserved categories) — eligible only for JRF + PhD (NOT for Assistant Professor)
  • Final-year M.Sc. students and Result Awaited (RA) candidates may apply provisionally

Age relaxation for JRF (max 5 years cumulative): OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD, PwBD, Third Gender, Women, candidates with research experience after PG, and Ex-Servicemen — each up to 5 years, but total relaxation cannot exceed 5 years.

What is the Salary (Fellowship Amount) for CSIR UGC NET JRF 2026?

The exam is a single CBT with three parts. There is no break between parts.

Subject-wise question count varies — Chemical Sciences has 120 questions (attempt 75), Life Sciences 145 (attempt 75), Physical Sciences 75 (attempt 55), Earth Sciences 150 (attempt 75), Mathematical Sciences 120 (attempt 60).

Negative Marking: Typically 25% of question marks across Parts A, B, C — except Earth Sciences Part C (33%) and Mathematical Sciences Part C (no negative marking; multiple correct options possible, credit only on identifying ALL correct).

What is the Selection Process for CSIR UGC NET June 2026?

Selection is via a single-stage CBT — there is no interview or second stage.

The Assistant Professor qualifying certificate has no validity expiry. The score for PhD admission (categories 2 & 3) is valid for 1 year from the result date, with 70% weightage to NET marks + 30% to interview at the university.
