HPCL Graduate Apprentice Recruitment 2025: Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

  • Required Degree: Candidates must possess an Engineering Graduation in [Civil/ Mechanical/ Electrical/ Electrical & Electronics/ Electronics & Telecommunication/ Instrumentation/ Computer Science/ IT]. 
  • Marks Criterion:
    • General/OBC-NC/EWS candidates: Minimum 60% aggregate marks of all semesters/years. 
    • SC/ST/PwBD (VH/HH/OH) candidates: Minimum 50% aggregate marks of all semesters/years. 
  • Year of Passing: Candidates who have completed their Engineering Graduation on or after April 1, 2022, are eligible to apply. Candidates who completed engineering before April 1, 2022, are not eligible. 
  • Percentage Calculation:
    • The degree percentage as provided by the university/college will be considered. 
    • If CGPA/GPA or letter grade is awarded, the equivalent percentage of marks should be indicated as per norms adopted by the University/Institute. A certificate to this effect from the2 University/Institute will be required at the time of the interview. 
    • If no conversion norm is available, the percentage will be calculated by dividing total marks obtained in all qualifying subjects across all semesters/years by the aggregated maximum marks. The fraction of percentage so arrived will be ignored (e.g., 49.99% will be treated as less than 50%). 
  • Recognition: All qualifications must be recognized by the Board of Technical Education/UGC/AICTE or an equivalent authority as per prevailing laws. 

Age Limit (as on 30-05-2025)

  • Minimum Age: 18 years. 
  • Maximum Age: 25 years. 
  • Age Relaxation:
    • SC/ST candidates: 5 years.
    • OBC-NC candidates: 3 years.
    • PwBD (Persons with benchmarked disabilities – VH/HH/OH with 40% or above disability) candidates: 10 years. 
    • Relaxations will be as per Government Guidelines / Apprentices Act, 1961. 

Other Eligibility Requirements

  • Nationality: Only Indian nationals are eligible to apply.
  • NATS Registration: Candidates must be registered and approved on the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS 2.0) web portal and by the Board of Apprenticeship Training (BOAT) to be considered for selection.
  • Previous Apprenticeship/Experience:
    • Candidates who have been previously engaged as an Apprentice or are currently undergoing Apprenticeship training elsewhere with an existing apprenticeship contract under the Apprentices Act, 1961 on the NATS Portal are not eligible. Any existing contract may lead to rejection. 
    • Candidates with one year or more of work experience are not eligible to apply.

Salary & Benefits for HPCL Graduate Apprentices

Selected Graduate Apprentice Trainees (Engineering) will receive a monthly stipend of ₹25,000. 

  • This stipend comprises ₹20,500 paid by HPCL and ₹4,500 paid directly to the apprentices by the Government of India (GOI) as per the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme. 
  • The duration of the apprenticeship engagement will be for one year only
  • HPCL is not obligated to provide housing assistance or any other allowances apart from the fixed stipend. 

Future Prospects & Preference:

While HPCL does not guarantee permanent/temporary employment upon completion of the apprenticeship, apprentices who successfully complete their training will receive certain relaxations/preferences in future HPCL recruitment norms:

  • Age Relaxation: Relaxation in the age eligibility criterion to the extent of the apprenticeship period (not exceeding one year). 
  • Grace Marks: An additional 5% of the marks secured by the apprentice in the Computer Based Test (CBT) will be added to their score for shortlisting for subsequent selection stages. It is clarified that successful completion of apprenticeship training does not guarantee recruitment, except for the relaxations mentioned above. 

Selection Process for HPCL Graduate Apprentices 2025

The selection methodology for HPCL Graduate Apprentice Trainees involves the following stages:

  1. Shortlisting for Interview: Candidates fulfilling all eligibility criteria will be called for an interview. The shortlisting will be based on a category-wise and stream-wise merit list derived from academic results in the engineering degree and cut-off marks decided by HPCL. Management reserves the right to restrict the number of candidates called for the interview. 
  2. Interview: Interviews are tentatively scheduled for June 2025. 
  3. Final Merit List: An All-India merit list will be prepared based on academic results of the engineering degree and scores obtained in the interview. 
  4. Medical Fitness & Document Verification: The final offer for Apprenticeship Training is subject to the candidate being declared medically fit as per HPCL standards and successful submission and verification of all required documents/certificates (Age, Qualifications, Caste, PwBD Medical Certificate, etc.).

  1. NATS Portal Registration: Ensure you are registered and approved on the NATS 2.0 portal before applying to HPCL.
  2. HPCL Portal Registration:
    • Visit the HPCL recruitment portal.
    • Use the option “Sign up for New Registration”. 
    • Upon successful registration, you will receive your login ID and password via the email ID provided. 
  3. Filling the Online Application Form:
    • Sign in to the HPCL Apprentices Application Link using your received login credentials. 
    • Only one application per candidate is allowed.
    • Carefully read the instructions on each part of the application form. 
    • Engineering Branch: Select your engineering branch from the dropdown menu as per the advertisement.

  • Accuracy of Information: Furnishing wrong/false information or suppression of material facts will lead to disqualification, even if detected after engagement. 
  • Caste/Category Certificates:
    • Reserved category candidates (SC/ST/OBC-NC/EWS/PwBD) must submit certificates in the prescribed format. 
    • Ensure the caste/community name and spelling match central government lists. 
    • OBC certificates must indicate non-creamy layer status. OBC claims are based on the father’s original state. Creamy layer OBC candidates should apply as Unreserved (UR).

  • HPCL’s Rights: HPCL reserves the right to:

  • Travel Allowance (TA): Outstation SC, ST, PwBD candidates appearing for an interview will be reimbursed 2nd class rail fare by the shortest route if the distance is not less than 30km. This is not applicable if the opted interview center is not the nearest to the mailing address. TA forms and travel proof are required. 
  • Placement: Apprentices can be placed for training at locations spread across India. Only candidates willing to be placed anywhere in India should apply. 
  • Canvassing: Canvassing in any form during any stage will lead to cancellation of candidature. 
  • Updates: Candidates must remain updated by visiting the NATS/HPCL Portal.
