Key Highlights — IBPS Clerk (CSA) Recruitment 2026

IBPS is an autonomous body that conducts the common recruitment process for public sector banks in India. This year the clerical cadre has been officially renamed Customer Service Associate (CSA), but the exam, the pattern and the job remain exactly the same as the old IBPS Clerk. The selected candidates will work at branch counters handling cash, customer service, account opening and daily banking operations. Since a graduate degree in any discipline is enough, lakhs of students from every stream apply for this exam every year.

  • Post Name: Customer Service Associate (CSA), popularly known as IBPS Clerk
  • Total Vacancies: 11,403 (indicative, for the 2027-28 indent)
  • Participating Banks: 11 public sector banks
  • Starting Basic Pay: ₹24,050 per month
  • Job Location: All India — you may apply for one State/UT only
  • Application Start Date: 1 August 2026
  • Last Date to Apply: 21 August 2026

How Many Vacancies Are There in IBPS Clerk 2026? State-Wise CSA List

Remember one very important rule — you can apply for only one State/UT, and once you choose it, the choice cannot be changed. So pick your state carefully, keeping in mind the local language requirement. Here is the complete state-wise provisional vacancy list from the notification.

The category-wise split across all states is UR 4,740, OBC (NCL) 2,815, SC 1,910, EWS 996 and ST 942.

One honest clarification you will not find elsewhere. IBPS has not printed a single all-India total anywhere in the notification — the document carries 37 separate State/UT tables, each with its own total. The figure of 11,403 is the sum of those 37 tables, and it matches the bank-wise and category-wise totals exactly. Also note that these vacancies are marked indicative, and Union Bank of India has reported “NR” (Not Reported) for every single state — so the final number is likely to go up, not down.

What is the Eligibility for IBPS Clerk 2026? Age Limit and Qualification

What is the Salary for IBPS Clerk (CSA) 2026?

This is the part everyone wants to know. The notification gives the complete pay scale for the Customer Service Associate post, and it is a proper long-term growth scale, not a fixed salary.

  • Starting Basic Pay: ₹24,050 per month
  • Pay Scale: ₹24,050 – 1,340/3 – 28,070 – 1,650/3 – 33,020 – 2,000/4 – 41,020 – 2,340/7 – 57,400 – 4,400/1 – 61,800 – 2,680/1 – ₹64,480
  • Allowances: Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, Transport Allowance and other perquisites as per the rules of the participating bank

Your basic pay starts at ₹24,050 and grows through regular increments all the way to ₹64,480 at the top of the scale. On top of the basic pay you receive DA, HRA and other allowances as per your bank’s rules.

Apart from the monthly salary, a bank job brings you provident fund, gratuity, medical benefits, leave travel concession, staff loans at concessional rates and a pension scheme. Add job security and fixed working hours, and you can see why this is such a popular career. The notification does not print a fixed in-hand figure because allowances differ from bank to bank and city to city.

What is the Selection Process for IBPS Clerk 2026?

There are no interviews in this recruitment — your marks decide everything. That is great news for students who feel nervous in face-to-face rounds. The process has three clear stages.

Stage 1: Online Preliminary Examination

This is a screening test only — your prelims marks are not added to the final merit list. You only have to clear it.

SectionQuestions / MarksTime
English Language30 / 3020 minutes
Numerical Ability35 / 3520 minutes
Reasoning Ability35 / 3520 minutes
Total100 / 10060 minutes

Each section is separately timed at 20 minutes, so you cannot carry unused time forward. There is a penalty of 0.25 marks for every wrong answer, and no penalty for questions you leave blank.

Stage 2: Online Main Examination

This is the stage that truly matters — only your Main Examination marks are used for the final merit list.

SectionQuestions / MarksTime
General / Financial Awareness40 / 5020 minutes
General English40 / 4035 minutes
Reasoning Ability40 / 6035 minutes
Quantitative Aptitude40 / 5035 minutes
Total160 / 200125 minutes

Negative marking is again 0.25 marks per wrong answer. You must clear a minimum score in each section as well as a minimum total score. The 200 marks are later converted out of 100 for provisional allotment. If the exam is held in more than one session, scores are normalised using the equi-percentile method. Start your preparation early with the topic-wise exam syllabus and preparation material available on our site.

Stage 3: Local Language Proficiency Test (LLPT)

After the mains result and provisional allotment, you will have to clear a qualifying Local Language Proficiency Test in the language you opted for. Good news — if you have studied that language as a subject up to Class 10 or above and can produce the certificate, you are exempted from this test. Finally, the bank that allots you a seat will verify your documents.

How to Apply Online for IBPS Clerk (CSA) 2026?

Before you begin, keep these ready: a scanned photograph, signature, left thumb impression, a handwritten declaration in English, your graduation mark-sheet, a valid email ID and a working mobile number. Also decide your State/UT in advance, because you cannot change it later.

  1. Visit the official IBPS online registration portal (direct link given in the Essential Links section below)
  2. Click on “CRP Clerical / CSA — New Registration” and enter your name, contact details and email ID to generate your provisional registration number and password
  3. Log in again and fill in your personal, educational and category details, then select the State/UT you want to apply for and the local language you opt for
  4. Upload the scanned photograph, signature, left thumb impression and handwritten declaration exactly in the sizes and formats given in the notification
  5. Preview the complete application form very carefully and correct any mistake before you submit
  6. Pay the application fee online using debit card, credit card, net banking, UPI, IMPS or a mobile wallet
  7. Submit the form and download or print the system-generated e-receipt and the filled application for your records

If you notice a mistake after submitting, IBPS opens an Edit Window for only 2 days after registration closes — and using it needs an extra online payment. So it is far better to check everything twice before you press submit.
