IPA Recruitment 2025 Overview

The Indian Ports Association (IPA) has announced a significant recruitment drive for 2025, inviting applications for various Executive Level posts within the Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port (SMP-Kolkata), specifically for its Kolkata Dock System (KDS) and Haldia Dock Complex (HDC). This recruitment aims to fill 41 entry-level vacancies across diverse disciplines such as Finance, Civil Engineering, Administration & Traffic, and Estate Management. Interested and eligible candidates can apply online, with the tentative window for registration and fee payment opening on June 30, 2025, and closing on July 30, 2025.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must ensure they meet the eligibility criteria regarding educational qualifications, experience, and age limits as of the closing date of the advertisement. 

Educational Qualification & Experience

Finance Discipline

  • Accounts Officer, Grade – I / Assistant Manager, Finance Division: Member of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India or of Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India. 

Civil Engineering Discipline

  • Assistant Executive Engineer (Civil): Degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering from a recognised University / Institution. 
  • Assistant Manager, Infrastructure & Civic Facilities Division: Degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering from a recognised university / Institution (4 years degree course). 

Administration & Traffic Discipline

  • Assistant Manager, Administration Division: Degree from a recognized university. 
  • Assistant Manager, Personnel & Industrial Relations Division: Degree from a recognized university/Institution. 
  • Assistant Personnel Officer, Grade – I: A Degree from a recognized university/ institution. 
  • Assistant Secretary, Grade – I: A degree from a recognized university. 
  • Assistant Manager, Traffic Operations (Railways) Division / Assistant Manager, Traffic Operations (Shipping & Cargo Handling) Division / Assistant Traffic Manager, Grade – I: A Degree from a recognized University. 

Estate Management Discipline

  • Assistant Estate Manager, Grade-I: Degree with a Post Graduate Degree/ Diploma in Architecture /Town & Country Planning or degree in Civil Engineering from a recognised university/ institution or Corporate Membership of Institution of Surveyor (India). 

Age Limit

  • The maximum age for all advertised entry-level positions is 30 years as on the last date of filing the application. 
  • Relaxation in upper age limit:
    • Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST): 5 years. 
    • Other Backward Classes (Non-creamy layer) (OBC): 3 years. 
    • Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD): 10 years (15 years for SC/ST and 13 years for OBC candidates). 
    • Ex-Servicemen: As per Government of India rules (length of military service + 3 years). 
  • SC, ST, or OBC candidates applying against Unreserved (UR) category posts will not be eligible for age relaxation benefits. 
  • Candidates applying under age relaxation categories must submit relevant certificates.

Salary & Benefits

Selected candidates for the entry-level vacancies will be placed in the Scale of Pay of Rs. 50,000-1,60,000/- (Pre-revised scale Rs. 20,600-46,500/-, pre-pre revised scale Rs. 9,100-15,100/-). 

The pay package will include:

  • Basic Pay 
  • Dearness Allowance (DA) based on IDA pattern 
  • Cafeteria allowances @ 35% of Basic Pay 

In addition, the following benefits are admissible as per the rules of Kolkata Dock System and Haldia Dock Complex of SMP-Kolkata: 

  • Gratuity 
  • HRA or subsidized accommodation 
  • PF / Medical benefits 
  • Leave encashment 

Selection Process

The selection procedure involves an online test and/or an interview. 

  1. Online Examination: Candidates must take an online test as per the structure detailed below. 
    • The test will be conducted in English. 
    • There will be negative marking of 1/4th of the marks allotted to that question for each incorrect answer. 
    • Qualifying Marks:
      • General Category: 40% 
      • OBC: 35% 
      • SC/ST and PwBD: 30% 
    • The IPA reserves the right to modify the examination structure and adjust qualifying cut-off marks. 
    • Tie-Breaking Policy:
      1. Higher marks in the Specialization section (if applicable). 
      2. Older candidate (higher date of birth) if a tie persists. 
  2. Interview (if applicable): Management will select candidates based on their overall performance in the Computer Based Test and/or an interview. 
  3. Document Verification: Before joining, selected candidates must submit original documents for verification to SMPK. Failure to provide these or if documents don’t meet criteria will lead to disqualification. 

The IPA reserves the right to modify the selection procedure if necessary.
