OPTCL Recruitment 2025: Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must meet specific educational qualifications and age limits to be eligible for these positions.

For Junior Maintenance & Operator Trainee (JMOT):

  • Educational Qualification:
    • HSC pass from a recognized Board or equivalent. 
    • National Trade Certificate in Electrician Trade from an institution recognized by SCTE&VT/NCVT with a minimum of 60% marks. 
    • For SC, ST, and PwBD candidates, the minimum percentage required is 50%. 
    • Candidates with higher qualifications not related to the nature of work will not be considered. 
  • Workman Permit:
    • Lineman-MV Permit (with learner permit for Workman-HT) from the Electrical Licensing Board of Odisha (ELBO) is mandatory. 
    • This must be submitted at the time of Document Verification. Failure to do so will lead to cancellation of candidature. 
  • Age Limit (as on 01.05.2025):
    • Minimum: 18 years. 
    • Maximum: 32 years. 
  • Age Relaxation:
    • SC, ST, SEBC: 5 years. 
    • Women: 5 years. 
    • PwBD: 10 years. PwBD candidates from SC/ST/SEBC categories get cumulative age relaxation. 
    • Ex-Servicemen: Period of service deducted from actual age. 
    • Candidates eligible for more than one relaxation (except PwBD) will get the most beneficial one. 
    • No age relaxation for SC/ST/SEBC candidates applying against UR vacancies. 

For Junior Management Trainee (Electrical) (Jr. MT):

  • Educational Qualification:
    • Diploma in Electrical / Electrical & Electronics Engineering with at least 60% marks in aggregate from a recognized University/Institution.
    • For SC, ST, and PwBD candidates, the minimum percentage required is 50%. 
    • Qualifications from Open University (except IGNOU), Distance Learning Mode, Part-Time, or Sandwich Course are not considered. 
    • Only minimum prescribed qualification is considered; higher unrelated qualifications are not. 
  • Age Limit (as on 01.05.2025):
    • Minimum: 21 years. 
    • Maximum: 32 years. 
  • Age Relaxation:
    • SC/ST candidates: 5 years.
    • SEBC candidates: 5 years.
    • Women candidates: 5 years.
    • Ex-Serviceman: Maximum 5 years.
    • PwBD candidates (40% or more disability): 10 years over and above category relaxation. PwBD candidates from SC/ST/SEBC get cumulative age relaxation. 
    • Candidates eligible for more than one relaxation (except PwBD) will get the most beneficial one.

OPTCL Trainee Salary & Benefits

Selected candidates will receive an attractive remuneration package during and after the training period.

For Junior Maintenance & Operator Trainee (JMOT):

  • During Training (1 year): Consolidated stipend of ₹17,000/- per month. 
  • After Training: Appointed as Assistant Technician (NE-4) on probation for one year. 
  • Pay Scale: ₹25,600/- to ₹81,200/- (Level: NE-(T)-4) with an initial Basic Pay of ₹25,600/-. 

For Junior Management Trainee (Electrical) (Jr. MT):

  • During Training (1 year): Consolidated stipend of ₹30,000/- per month. 
  • After Training: Appointed as Junior Manager (Electrical) in E-2 Grade on probation for one year. 
  • Pay Scale: ₹44,900/- to ₹1,42,400/- (Level: EE-1) with an initial Basic Pay of ₹44,900/-. 
  • Training & Service Agreement Bond: Jr. MTs need to execute a bond of ₹1,80,000/- to serve OPTCL for four years (including training).

OPTCL Recruitment 2025: Selection Process

The selection methodology differs slightly for the JMOT and JMT positions.

For Junior Maintenance & Operator Trainee (JMOT):

The selection process involves:

  1. Computer Based Test (CBT):
    • Comprises 200 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs). 
    • Duration: 3 hours. 
    • Question Weightage:
      • Subject Domain Knowledge (Electrician Trade): 80% 
      • Numerical / GK & Reasoning: 10% 
      • English Knowledge: 10% 
    • Marking: 1 mark for each correct answer; 0.25 marks deduction for each wrong answer. 
    • Minimum Qualifying Marks in CBT: UR – 50%, SC/ST/PwBD – 40%. 
  2. Skill Test:
    • Candidates qualifying CBT are shortlisted in a 1:3 ratio per category for the Skill Test. 
    • Involves climbing towers/structures, manual operation of isolators, and other electrical operation & maintenance activities. 
  3. Document Verification: Conducted for candidates who qualify the Skill Test. 
  4. Merit List: Drawn based on performance in CBT (80% weightage) and Skill Test (20% weightage). 
  5. Medical Fitness: Final appointment is subject to medical fitness. 

For Junior Management Trainee (Electrical) (Jr. MT):

The selection process involves:

  1. Computer Based Test (CBT):
    • Comprises 200 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs). 
    • Duration: 3 hours. 
    • Question Weightage:

    • Candidates qualifying CBT are shortlisted in a 1:3 ratio per category for the Personal Interview. 
    • No minimum qualifying marks for the Personal Interview. 
  3. Document Verification: Conducted for candidates shortlisted for Personal Interview. 
  4. Merit List: Drawn based on performance in CBT (80% weightage) and Personal Interview (20% weightage). 
  5. Medical Fitness: Final appointment is subject to medical fitness and final document verification. 

Provisions for Outsourced/Contractual Candidates:

  • For JMOT: Those engaged in OPTCL by manpower service providers for similar jobs, less than 45 years old with at least 1 year continuous service as on 01.05.2025, get upper age limit relaxation. They also receive 1% extra marks on total CBT marks for each completed year of service (max 15%). 
  • For JMT: Candidates engaged through outsourcing agencies in OPTCL/GRIDCO with one year completed service as on 01.05.2025 get upper age relaxation up to 5 years in addition to other relaxations. Proof of experience is required. Departmental candidates (OPTCL regular employees) have no age bar (if min 5 years residual service) and are exempt from application fees.

  4. Receive Credentials: Upon successful submission, an Application Sequence Number (USER ID) & Password will be sent to the registered e-mail ID and mobile number. Retain these for future reference.

    • Recent colour passport photograph (50KB-80KB, 3.5cm x 4.5cm, .jpg/.jpeg).

    • Other documents (10th certificate & marksheet, ITI/Diploma certificate & marksheet, Lineman MV Permit (for JMOT) or Undertaking, Caste Certificate, PwBD Certificate, Ex-Servicemen/Sports/Experience certificates if applicable) should be 100KB to 300KB in PDF format. 
    • Ensure uploaded documents are clear and identifiable.
