What is the Selection Process for Punjab Police Constable 2026?
| Stage | Detail |
|---|---|
| Stage-I: CBT | Paper-I (100 marks, counts for merit) + Paper-II (50 marks, Punjabi, qualifying only) |
| Stage-II: PST & PMT | Qualifying; Running, Long Jump, High Jump, then Height |
| Stage-III: Document Scrutiny | Original certificates with one self-attested copy each |
Paper-I has 100 MCQs of one mark each, in 2 hours. There is no negative marking, and scores across shifts are normalized by the Mean Standard Deviation method.
| Section (Paper-I) | Marks |
|---|---|
| General Awareness | 35 |
| Quantitative Aptitude & Numerical Skills | 20 |
| Mental Ability & Logical Reasoning | 20 |
| English Language Skills | 10 |
| Punjabi Language Skills | 10 |
| Digital Literacy & Awareness | 5 |
Paper-II is a mandatory qualifying Matric-level Punjabi test of 50 questions in 1 hour. Failure to secure the minimum 50% in Paper-II will disqualify you, whatever your Paper-I score. Paper-II marks will not be considered for merit.
| PST Group | Events (all must be cleared) |
|---|---|
| Male (incl. ESM under 35) | 1,600 m in 6 min 30 sec (1 chance); Long Jump 3.80 m and High Jump 1.10 m (3 chances each) |
| Female (incl. ESM under 35) | 800 m in 4 min 30 sec (1 chance); Long Jump 3.00 m and High Jump 0.95 m (3 chances each) |
| ESM Male over 35 | 1,400 m walk and run in 12 min; 10 full squats in 3 min (1 chance each) |
| ESM Female over 35 | 800 m run in 6 min (1 chance) |
Failure to qualify any one event will disqualify the candidate. Random dope testing may be done, and refusing to give a biological sample will disqualify you and make you ineligible. Appeals against PST/PMT results go to the Board member at the venue on that same day; a later appeal is not considered. At Document Scrutiny, a candidate who cannot show the required originals is not considered further.
Final merit is based on normalized Paper-I marks, your cadre preference and category-wise vacancies. Ties go to the older candidate, then to higher marks in General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude and Mental Ability, in that order. There is no waiting list. After selection, a medical examination with a substance abuse test (no relaxation in any parameter), character verification and certificate verification follow. Pregnant women on their PST/PMT date may seek a postponement through the portal with a Govt. hospital report. Using any unfair means to support your candidature makes you liable for disqualification and legal action.
