RRC SR Apprentice Eligibility Criteria 2025

Before applying, it is crucial to ensure that you meet all the eligibility requirements set by the RRC Southern Railway.

Educational Qualification

  • Fresher Category (Fitter, Painter & Welder): Must have passed 10th Class (Matriculation) with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks under the 10+2 system or its equivalent.
  • Fresher Category (Medical Laboratory Technician – Radiology, Pathology, Cardiology): Must have passed 12th Class under the 10+2 system with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, securing a minimum of 50% aggregate marks.
  • Ex-ITI Category:
    • Fitter, Machinist, MMV, Turner, Diesel Mechanic, Carpenter, Painter, Welder, Wireman, Plumber, etc.:Must have passed 10th Class with a minimum of 50% marks and possess a National Trade Certificate (NTC) in the notified trade issued by NCVT/SCVT.
    • Electrician: Must have passed 10th Class with Science as a subject (min 50% marks) and hold an ITI certificate in the relevant trade.
    • Electronics Mechanic: Must have passed 10th Class with Science (Physics & Chemistry) and Mathematics (min 50% marks) and hold an ITI certificate in the relevant trade.
    • COPA/PASAA: Must have passed 10th Class (min 50% marks) and hold an NTC in “Computer Operator and Programming Assistant” from NCVT.
    • Stenographer & Secretarial Assistant (English): Must have passed the 12th class examination and hold an ITI certificate in the relevant trade.

Note: The minimum 50% marks requirement in 10th standard is not applicable for SC/ST/PwBD candidates.

Age Limit (as on 25-08-2025)

  • Fresher & Ex-ITI Candidates: The candidate should have completed 15 years of age and should not have completed 22 years.
  • MLT Candidates: The candidate should have completed 15 years of age and should not have completed 24 years.
  • Age Relaxation: The upper age limit is relaxable by 3 years for OBC, 5 years for SC/ST, and 10 years for Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD) candidates.

Physical/Medical Requirements

Candidates must meet the minimum standards of physical fitness as specified in Schedule-II of the Apprenticeship Rules, 1992. A medical certificate from a Government Authorized Doctor must be produced during document verification.

RRC SR Apprentice Salary and Stipend Details

While this is an apprenticeship training program and not a full-time employment, the selected candidates are entitled to a fixed monthly stipend as per government norms. This stipend is designed to support the apprentice’s living expenses during the training period. The financial package is a great starting point for young professionals. The stipend is directly credited to the apprentice’s bank account.

The monthly stipend structure is as follows:

  • Freshers (10th Pass): ₹6,000/- per month
  • Freshers (12th Pass): ₹7,000/- per month

During the second year of training, the stipend amount will see a 10% increase, and in the third year, there will be a further 15% increase. This training also opens doors for future employment, as Course Completed Act Apprentices (CCAAs) get a 20% preference in Level 1 recruitment in Railways, which comes with a full salary structure including Pay Level, Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), and Transport Allowance (TA).

Southern Railway Apprentice Selection Process Explained

Merit-Based Selection

The merit list will be prepared based on the marks obtained by the candidates in their qualifying examinations. The methodology is as follows:

  • For Fresher Category (10th Pass): The merit list will be prepared based on the percentage of marks in the 10th standard. Marks will be converted to a scale of 200.
  • For Fresher Category (MLT – 12th Pass): The merit list will be based on the marks obtained in the 12th standard (with Physics, Chemistry, & Biology). Marks will be converted to a scale of 200.
