Eligibility Criteria for WBCSSC Assistant Teacher Recruitment 2025

Aspiring candidates must meet the specified eligibility criteria regarding nationality, educational qualifications, and age limits to apply for the Assistant Teacher posts.

Nationality

  • Only citizens of India are eligible to apply. 

Educational Qualification (for Assistant Teachers for Classes IX & X)

  • Essential Qualifications:
    • Graduate or Post Graduate degree from a recognized University with at least 50% marks in either Graduation or Post Graduation (or its equivalent). 
    • AND Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) from a National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) recognized institution. 
    • OR
    • A 4-year degree of B.A.Ed / B.Sc.Ed. from any National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) recognized institution. 
  • A relaxation of 5% in educational qualification marks will be allowed for reserved category candidates. 
  • The minimum qualifications prescribed by the NCTE, attained on or before the last date of receiving online applications and mentioned in the application form, will be considered. 

Educational Qualification (for Assistant Teachers for Classes XI & XII)

  • Essential Qualifications:
    • (a) Post Graduate with at least 50% marks (or its equivalent) from a recognised University and Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) from a National Council for Teacher Education recognised institution; Or
    • (b) Post Graduate with at least 50% marks (or its equivalent) from recognised University and B.A. Ed/ B.Sc. Ed. from any NCTE recognised institution.
  • A relaxation of 5% in educational qualification marks will be allowed for reserved category candidates. 
  • The minimum qualifications prescribed by the NCTE, attained on or before the last date of receiving online applications and mentioned in the application form, will be considered. 

Age Limit (for Assistant Teachers for Classes IX & X)

  • Minimum Age: 21 years as of January 1, 2025. 
  • Maximum Age: 40 years as of January 1, 2025. 
  • Age Relaxation:
    • Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) candidates: 5 years.
    • Backward Class candidates: 3 years.
    • Physically Handicapped candidates: 8 years.
  • Age relaxation will also be given to candidates who have been granted the benefit as per the order dated 03.04.25 of the Hon’ble Supreme Court. 
  • If a person falls under more than one category for relaxation, they will be eligible for only one benefit, whichever is most beneficial.

Selection Process: The Path to Becoming an Assistant Teacher

The selection process for the 2nd SLST (AT), 2025 will involve multiple stages:

  1. Written Examination:
    • A written examination will be held, tentatively in the first week of September 2025. The exact date(s) will be notified later. 
    • Admit cards for the SLST will be available for download from the official website. 
  2. Interview:
    • Candidates who qualify in the written examination will be called for an interview.
    • The tentative schedule for interviews is from the 1st week to the 3rd week of November 2025. 
  3. Panel Publication & Counselling:
    • Based on performance in the written test and interview, a panel of selected candidates will be published, tentatively on November 24, 2025. 
    • Counselling and recommendation processes are tentatively scheduled to commence on November 29, 2025. 
    • Each panel and waiting list will remain valid for one year from the date of the first counselling. Candidates will not be recommended against any post other than the one applied for or against unnotified vacancies. 
  4. Document Verification:
    • The eligibility of a qualified candidate will be verified by the Commission at any time up to the final counselling stage, and subsequently by the appointing authority.
