Educational Qualification

Eligibility is strictly post-specific. A candidate may apply for a maximum of 2 positions (separate fee each).

  • Project Scientist – I: Doctoral Degree (Ph.D.) in Wildlife Science, Zoology, Ecology, Environmental Sciences, Geoinformatics, Life Sciences or Forestry Sciences.
  • Principal Project Associate: 4-year Bachelor’s or Master’s in Natural / Agricultural / Forestry Sciences with 8 years’ experience.
  • Senior Project Associate: 4-year Bachelor’s or Master’s in Natural / Agricultural / Forestry Sciences with 4 years’ experience, or a Doctoral Degree.
  • Project Associate – II: Master’s or 4-year Bachelor’s in Natural / Agricultural / Forestry Sciences with 2 years’ experience.
  • Project Associate – I: Master’s or 4-year Bachelor’s in Natural / Agricultural / Forestry Sciences. NET / GATE qualified candidates get higher emoluments.
  • Project Assistant: Bachelor’s in Natural / Agricultural / Forestry Sciences, or a 3-year Diploma in Engineering.
  • Administrative Assistant: Graduate Degree in any discipline.
  • Field Worker: Graduate Degree in any discipline.

What is the Salary for WII Project Posts 2026?

WII pays one of the most competitive consolidated emoluments among Indian research institutions. The figures below are monthly and include HRA where applicable.

  • Project Scientist – I: Rs 77,000 + HRA
  • Principal Project Associate: Rs 67,000 + HRA
  • Senior Project Associate: Rs 57,000 + HRA
  • Project Associate – II: Rs 42,000 (NET/GATE) or Rs 33,000 + HRA (non-NET/GATE)

What is the Selection Process for WII Project Posts 2026?

The selection runs entirely online and is purely merit-based — there is no separate written exam.

  1. Application Screening — applications are short-listed on essential qualification, age, percentage marks in Bachelor’s and Master’s, specialisation relevance, research experience and peer-reviewed publications.
  2. Online Interview — the top 10 candidates per position are invited to an online interview before a Selection Committee.
