Eligibility Criteria for APSC Assistant Engineer (Mechanical)
Candidates must fulfill the following eligibility conditions to apply:
Nationality and Residency:
- Must be an Indian Citizen as defined in Articles 5 to 8 of the Constitution of India.
- Must be a permanent resident of Assam. Proof requires a valid Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC) issued for educational purposes or an Employment Exchange Registration Certificate from Assam.
Educational Qualification:
- A Bachelor’s Degree (B.E.) or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering from an institution approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and recognized by the Government.
- OR, Passed Parts A & B of the Associate Member of the Institution of Engineers (AMIE – India) examination in Mechanical Engineering, provided enrollment occurred on or before May 31, 2013.
- The Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering must be obtained through a regular (full-time) course. Degrees obtained via distance education are not acceptable.
- Candidates must upload relevant mark sheets for all semesters/years and the final pass certificate.
Age Limit (as of 01-01-2025):
- Minimum Age: 21 years.
- Maximum Age: 38 years.
Age Relaxation:
The upper age limit is relaxable for reserved categories as follows:
- SC/ST: 5 years (up to 43 years).
- OBC/MOBC: 3 years (up to 41 years).
- Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD): 10 years (irrespective of category).
- Ex-Servicemen: Maximum age is 50 years (Unreserved), with further relaxation of 3 years for OBC/MOBC and 5 years for SC/ST.

Salary and Benefits: APSC Assistant Engineer Pay Scale
Selected candidates will be placed in the following pay scale along with Grade Pay and other allowances admissible under Assam State Government rules:
- Pay Scale: Rs. 30,000/- to Rs. 1,10,000/-
- Grade Pay: Rs. 12,700/-
- Pay Band: Pay Band – 4
Usual allowances as per government norms will supplement the basic pay.
APSC Assistant Engineer Selection Process
The exact selection procedure will be notified later by APSC through a corrigendum or addendum if needed. The Commission reserves the right to decide the selection method based on the number of applications received. The process may involve:
- Screening Test/Written Examination: To shortlist candidates. The examination might be conducted zone-wise depending on candidate numbers.
