Bank of India Specialist Officer Vacancy 2026 — Online Application Opens 10 September

Bank of India has opened a lateral-entry specialist officer drive across four grades. Under Project No. 2026-27/02, the bank is recruiting 205 officers across 48 distinct specialist positions, spanning Junior Management Grade Scale-I right up to Senior Management Grade Scale-IV. The bulk of the intake is technology — full-stack engineering, information security, data engineering, DevSecOps, cloud infrastructure and database administration — but the same notice also carries Law Officer, Fire Officer, Security Officer and Civil Engineer roles. Starting basic pay ranges from ₹48,480 in Scale I to ₹1,02,300 in Scale IV, with the Scale IV pay scale rising to ₹1,20,940.

The online application window runs from 10 September 2026 to 25 September 2026, and age, qualification and experience are all reckoned as on 1 August 2026. This is a lateral-entry recruitment, not a fresher drive: every single role demands post-qualification work experience, from one year at Scale I up to eight years at Scale IV, and shortlisting is done purely on the documents you upload at registration. If you are an experienced IT professional in the BFSI space, a practising advocate or a civil engineer with construction exposure, this is one of the strongest banking jobs openings of the season. GovtJobsAlert.in has laid out every role, category split, age band and condition below.

What is the Salary for BoI Specialist Officer 2026? (₹48,480 to ₹1,20,940 Basic)

Pay follows the standard officer scales of the Indian banking industry, and the grade you enter at is decided by the post you apply for, not by your test performance. The other allowances and perquisites applicable to the respective grade sit on top of the basic figures below, which is what makes a bank specialist officer package competitive with private-sector IT roles at the same experience level.

GradeScale of PayStarting Basic
Scale I (JMGS-I)₹48,480 – 2000(7) – 62,480 – 2340(2) – 67,160 – 2680(7) – 85,920₹48,480

What is the Selection Process for BoI SO Recruitment 2026?

Selection runs on documents first and marks second. The bank may conduct an online examination followed by an interview, or an interview alone, depending on how many eligible candidates apply — so treat the upload stage as the real gate. Experience letters that clearly state your designation, dates and the technologies you worked on carry far more weight here than they would in a written-test recruitment, because a scrutiny panel that cannot see the required years on paper will not pass you forward, whatever your score would have been.

StageDetail
1. ShortlistingBased solely on documents uploaded at registration — professional experience, mandatory certification, educational qualifications and any other eligibility proof. No later submission or enquiry will be entertained.
2. Online ExaminationObjective test, if conducted. Documents of only those candidates who qualify the online test are scrutinised for further shortlisting.
3. Personal InterviewCandidates are called at a ratio of about 1:3 to the vacancies, a ratio the bank may raise or lower. The interview carries 100 marks and has its own pass mark — 50% for General and EWS candidates, 45% for SC, ST, OBC and PwBD candidates against reserved vacancies. Qualifying the online test does not by itself create a right to be interviewed.
4. Final MeritWhere both stages are held, the online examination and interview are weighted 60:40, and a candidate must be found suitable in both. Where only the interview is held, merit rests on the interview alone.

Online Examination Pattern

TestMaximum MarksNature
English Language25Qualifying only — marks are not added to the merit list
Professional Knowledge relevant to the post100Merit-deciding
Combined125Composite time of 100 minutes
MediumBilingual (English and Hindi) for every test except English Language
Qualifying marks35% for General and EWS candidates, with 5% relaxation for SC, ST, OBC and PwBD candidates against reserved vacancies. Mandatory in each test separately
Negative markingOne-fourth of the marks assigned to a question deducted for each wrong answer; no penalty for a blank
StructureThe bank may modify the examination structure and will announce any change on its website
Tie-breakerHigher online examination score ranks first, then seniority in age. Where only an interview is held, the older candidate ranks higher

A detailed syllabus is not published — an Information Handout will accompany the call letters, so use our exam calendar to plan around the tentative test window.

What Conditions Must You Check Before Applying for BoI Specialist Officer 2026?

These clauses decide candidature, and any one of them can end an application on its own. Read them before you pay the fee, not after, because an application cannot be withdrawn once it is registered.

ConditionWhat it means
One post onlyYou may apply for only one post. If you submit multiple applications, only the latest completed one is retained and the fees paid on the others are forfeited.
Past BoI employees barredCandidates who have held a similar post in Bank of India in the past are not eligible and need not apply.
NOC is compulsoryCandidates serving in Government or Public Sector Undertakings, including nationalised banks and financial institutions, must produce a No Objection Certificate at the interview. Without it the candidature is not considered and stands cancelled.
OBC creamy layerCandidates in the OBC creamy layer are not entitled to OBC reservation and must declare their category as General. An OBC certificate must carry the non-creamy-layer clause, be issued on or after 01.04.2026, and name the caste exactly as it appears in the Central Government list.
No withdrawal, no refundOnce registered, an application cannot be withdrawn, and the fee or intimation charge is neither refunded nor carried forward to another examination. No detail can be changed afterwards either — category, date of birth, post applied for, qualifications and exam centre are all final at submission, and a request to be considered under a different category is not entertained.
Incomplete uploadsAn application without a photograph, signature, left thumb impression and handwritten declaration is not treated as valid. The declaration must be in your own handwriting and in English, and neither it nor your signature may be in capital letters; one written by anybody else, or in another language, makes the application invalid. Candidates who cannot write may have the text typed and put their left thumb impression below it. A signature on the attendance sheet that does not match the uploaded one leads to disqualification, and you should not change your appearance until the process ends — failure to present the same photograph at every stage, or any doubt about your identity at any stage, can lead to disqualification.
Medical fitnessAppointment of a provisionally selected candidate is subject to being declared medically fit and to the bank’s service and conduct rules.
Willingness to relocateThe bank may post or transfer officers anywhere in India. Only candidates ready to work anywhere in India should apply.
The post itself can be scrappedIf not enough candidates qualify, the bank may scrap a post or cut its vacancies without giving a reason, and it may cancel the recruitment partly or entirely at any time.
Jurisdiction and canvassingAny dispute is subject to the sole jurisdiction of the courts at Mumbai, and canvassing in any form is a disqualification.
Documents at interviewOriginals plus self-attested photocopies must be submitted at the interview, failing which the candidate may not be permitted to appear.
Name spellingYour name and your father’s or husband’s name must match your certificates exactly; any change or alteration found may disqualify the candidature.
Multiple attendanceAppearing more than once in the online examination or interview leads to summary rejection and cancellation of candidature.
Unfair meansImpersonation, misconduct or carrying a mobile phone into the hall can mean disqualification from the interview, being debarred permanently or for a specified period from any Bank examination, and termination if already appointed.
Later detectionIf a disqualifying instance is detected after the process, the disqualification applies with retrospective effect and bars the candidate from future Bank recruitment.
Compensatory timeEligible PwBD candidates get twenty minutes of compensatory time per hour of examination, but only if they registered for it in the online application; those who did not register cannot be allowed it later. Scribe misuse cancels both candidate and scribe, with a possible two-year debarment from all bank examinations.
Result must predate the cut-offYour qualifying result must have been declared on or before 01.08.2026, and a document from the Board or University proving the declaration date must be produced at the interview.
IntimationsCall letters and updates are sent only by email and SMS to the registered address and mobile number. The bank is not responsible if an intimation fails to reach you, so keep both current and watch the bank’s website.
Delayed or re-run testsIf a technical problem disrupts test delivery, the bank may shift or re-run the session at its absolute discretion. Candidates unwilling to move or to take part in the delayed process are summarily rejected, and no candidate has a claim to a re-test.
Interview travelCandidates attend the interview at their own expense. Outstation SC, ST and PwBD candidates are paid second-class to-and-fro rail or bus fare, or actual expenses incurred, whichever is less, by the shortest route and on production of proof of travel, such as the rail or bus ticket. The concession does not apply to those already serving in Central or State Government, corporations, public undertakings, local government, institutions or panchayats.
