How should you choose? Start from your degree, not from the post name. Find every code whose essential qualification you fully meet, then check the desirable skills to see where your project or thesis work fits best. A Microbiology M.Sc. with GATE, for example, may fit five or more Project Associate-I codes. Since there is only one seat per code, applying for all the codes you genuinely qualify for improves your chances.

What is the Salary for CSIR IICB Project Staff 2026?

PostMonthly Remuneration
Project Associate-I (with NET/GATE or equivalent)₹31,000 + HRA
Project Associate-I (others)₹25,000 + HRA
Senior Project Associate₹42,000 + 30% HRA
Project Scientist-I₹56,000 + 30% HRA, with 5% increment for every 2 years of experience in the same project

For Project Associate-I, the higher ₹31,000 rate is for candidates with CSIR-UGC / ICAR / ICMR NET (including lectureship / assistant professorship) or GATE, or those who have qualified national-level examinations conducted by Central Government Departments like DBT/DST or equivalent and/or their agencies. Everyone else gets ₹25,000 plus HRA. So if you have cleared NET or GATE, carry the proof — it decides your pay.

For Senior Project Associate and Project Scientist-I, the HRA is fixed at 30% in the advertisement. For Project Associate-I it only says “plus HRA”, without a rate, so do not assume a figure until the offer letter comes.
