Eligibility Criteria — GSSSB Municipal Accountant Recruitment 2026
Educational Qualification
You must hold a Bachelor’s degree in any one of the following, from a university or institution established or incorporated under a Central or State Act, or an institution recognised or deemed a university under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 — or an equivalent qualification recognised by the Government:
- Business Administration (BBA)
- Computer Application (BCA)
- Commerce (B.Com.)
- Science — Mathematics or Statistics
- Arts — Statistics, Economics or Mathematics
In addition, you need basic knowledge of computer application as prescribed in the Gujarat Civil Services Classification and Recruitment (General) Rules, 1967, and adequate knowledge of Gujarati or Hindi or both. This is a natural fit for commerce and finance job aspirants.
You may still apply even if you do not hold the computer certificate right now. Acceptable proof is a certificate from a training institute following the General Administration Department syllabus, or a computer diploma, degree or certificate course from a recognised university, or a certificate showing computer as a subject in your degree or diploma, or proof of having passed Std-10 or Std-12 with computer as a subject. You must produce it before appointment — if you do not, you will not be eligible for appointment and the appointing authority will cancel your selection.
If your degree is from a foreign university, you must produce UGC proof of its recognition or equivalence in India within the certificate-verification schedule; nothing filed after that deadline is considered.
⚠️ Important exclusion: candidates holding B.Sc. (CA & IT) and M.Sc. (CA & IT) degrees have NOT been treated as qualified for this post. Please check your degree name carefully before paying the fee.
Candidates who have appeared for the qualifying degree examination but whose result is not yet declared, and those who intend to appear for it, may still apply for the Preliminary Examination. However, everyone declared qualified for the Main Examination must produce proof of passing along with the Main Examination form — the cut-off date for passing the degree is the last date for filling the Main Examination form.

The age limit is 20 to 35 years, counted as on 21 August 2026.

Reserved posts, age relaxation and every other reserved-category benefit are available only to SC, ST, SEBC and EWS candidates of Gujarat origin. Reserved category candidates who apply against unreserved posts get no age relaxation and no other concession. Candidates already serving the Gujarat Government may have the upper age limit relaxed in their favour under the Gujarat Civil Services Classification and Recruitment (General) Rules, 1967. SEBC married women must submit the non-creamy layer certificate based on their parents’ income — if it is based on the husband’s income, the application is cancelled.
What is the Salary for GSSSB Municipal Accountant 2026?
The pay structure has two clear phases, both printed in the notification.
- First five years: fixed pay of ₹49,600 per month, with the other benefits admissible under the Finance Department resolutions
- After five years: on satisfactory service, regular appointment in the pay scale of ₹39,900 – ₹1,26,600, Pay Level-7 as per ROP-2016
- Post classification: Class-3 (Group C equivalent) in the Gujarat subordinate service
A fixed pay of ₹49,600 per month from day one is well above what most Class-3 state posts offer at entry, which makes this cadre unusually attractive for fresh graduates.
The notification also records that the fixed-pay arrangement remains subject to the outcome of SLP No. 14124/2012 and SLP No. 14125/2012 pending before the Supreme Court. Once regularised, you get the full Level-7 scale along with Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance and the other allowances admissible to Gujarat Government employees, plus pension benefits and job security.
What is the Selection Process for GSSSB Municipal Accountant 2026?
There are two written stages and a document verification round. Here is the critical thing to understand: your Preliminary marks do not count in the final merit list — the Prelim is only a screening test.
Stage 1: Preliminary Examination (Screening Test)
Objective MCQ paper conducted by CBRT or OMR method, 150 marks, 2 hours, medium Gujarati. Each question carries 1 mark, with negative marking of 0.25 mark for every wrong answer. The qualifying standard is 40% for every category. Roughly 7 times the number of advertised posts is declared qualified for the Main Examination.
GSSSB is a notified “Examination Authority” under the Gujarat Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2023, in force since March 2023, so this is a public examination and any candidate found guilty of a breach faces legal action under that Act.
| Prelim Subject | Marks |
|---|---|
| General Studies | 20 |
| General Mental Ability | 10 |
| Gujarati Grammar | 10 |
| English Grammar | 10 |
| Statistics and Mathematics | 10 |
| Economics and Financial Administration | 10 |
| Management and International Business | 10 |
| Public Administration | 10 |
| Financial Accounting | 10 |
| Income Tax Act and GST | 10 |
| Cost and Management Accounting | 10 |
| Computer Applications in Accounting (Tally) | 10 |
| Auditing-1 | 10 |
| Company Audit | 10 |
| Total | 150 |
Stage 2: Main Examination (Descriptive)
Two descriptive papers, 200 marks in total, and appearing in both papers is compulsory — a candidate absent in either paper is disqualified. The qualifying standard is 40% in each paper for every category.
- Paper-1 — Gujarati and English Language: 100 marks, 3 hours. Part-A Gujarati (50 marks: essay, precis, letter, discussion article, report, translation) and Part-B English (50 marks: essay, letter, report, writing on visual information, precis, translation). Standard is Std-12 higher level.
- Paper-2 — Accountancy and Auditing: 100 marks, 3 hours, medium Gujarati, degree level. Covers Financial Accounting 15, Income Tax and GST 15, Economics and Financial Administration 15, Statistics and Mathematics 15, Cost Accounting 10, Management Accounting 10, Auditing 10 and Management & International Business 10. The paper has 8 questions of 2 marks, 8 of 3 marks and 12 of 5 marks.
Start early with our exam syllabus and preparation resources, because Paper-2 is degree level and needs real accounting practice.
Stage 3: Document Verification and Final Merit
The final select list and waiting list are prepared category-wise only on the marks obtained in the Main Examination, after verification of original certificates. 5% bonus marks are added for eligible widow candidates who have not remarried at the time of appointment, and 5% bonus marks for sportspersons who have represented the State at National/International, Inter-University or All India School Federation level in one of the 25 sports named in the notification — participation at any other level does not count and must not be entered in the form. The notification computes both bonuses as 5% of the marks obtained in the MCQ-OMR/CBRT examination; it does not spell out how that interacts with a merit list drawn only from the descriptive Main Examination, so watch the Board’s website for clarification.
