The upper age limit for applying to the ISRO Scientist/Engineer (SD) is 35 years. For Scientist / Engineer (SC), the upper age limit is 28/30 Years. 

However, age relaxation is applicable for certain categories of candidates as per the Government of India’s rules. Serving Central Government employees, Ex-Servicemen, and Persons with Disabilities are eligible for age relaxation. Candidates should carefully review the age criteria and any applicable relaxation provisions to ensure they meet the eligibility requirements before submitting their applications.

Selection Process for Scientist / Engineer in ISRO

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) carries out an elaborate process for the selection of Scientists or Engineers. ISRO follows two different procedures for Scientist SD and Scientist SC selections. If you’re an aspiring ISRO Scientist SD, it’s important to understand that your selection is primarily based on your performance in an interview. Initially, an online application needs to be made on the ISRO Live Register portal, post which an initial screening is conducted to shortlist candidates for the interview. Note that you have the option to answer interview questions in Hindi. However, the minimum prescribed qualification doesn’t guarantee eligibility for the interview or selection – it’s your performance that counts.

On the other hand, if you’re eyeing the Scientist SC post, ISRO follows a different selection procedure. Every valid applicant is required to appear for a written test, which is conducted at several locations including Ahmedabad, Chennai, Ernakulam, Hyderabad, and Thiruvananthapuram. An important factor to consider here is that you can apply for multiple posts, provided you fulfill certain conditions. But remember, if you’re applying for multiple posts, you should select the same written test center location. It’s crucial to understand that these two distinctive selection processes are designed to pick the best minds for India’s premier space research body.

Application Fees for ISRO Scientist / Engineer Recruitment 2023

Understanding the application fee structure is an integral part of the application process for the post of Scientist/Engineer in the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). The good news is that for the post of Scientist/Engineer-SD, applicants need not worry about an application fee, as ISRO has waived off this charge. In contrast, the scenario for the post of Scientist/Engineer-SC is slightly different. Each applicant is required to pay an application fee of INR 750. Female applicants, Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Ex-servicemen (EX-SM), and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PWBD) candidates can get a full fee refund. The condition for this refund is that they should appear for the written test. For other candidates, INR 500 will be refunded, after deducting applicable bank charges, if they appear for the written test.
