Konkan Railway Vacancy 2026: Post-Wise Details, Pay Level, Eligibility Channels and CBT Pattern
Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL), a Central Public Sector Undertaking, has announced 201 regular vacancies in Group C and erstwhile Group D posts. The notification covers Track Maintainer, Assistant Loco Pilot, Junior Engineer (Civil), Station Master, Technician-III, Senior Section Engineer and several other posts. Initial pay runs from ₹18,000 at Level 1 up to ₹44,900 at Level 7. These are regular posts, not contract or fixed-term engagements — an important distinction in railway jobs.
Before you get excited, read this carefully: KRCL recruitment is not open to everyone in India. Every applicant must fall within one of five specific eligibility channels tied to the Konkan Railway route, and the 57 Track Maintainer posts are reserved for land loser candidates only. We explain all of this in detail below. Applications are expected to open in the last week of August 2026, with the exact date published seven days in advance. Keep reading this guide from GovtJobsAlert.in so you know exactly where you stand.

Who Can Apply — KRCL Eligibility Channels 2026
This section matters more than any other in this article, so read it before you spend time on the qualification details.
Beyond meeting the educational qualification, every applicant must belong to one of these five channels:
- Land loser candidates — those whose land was acquired for building the Konkan Railway line between Roha and Thokur, whatever the percentage of land lost
- The spouse, son, daughter, grandson or granddaughter of a land loser candidate
- Non-land-loser candidates domiciled in Maharashtra, Goa or Karnataka who ALSO hold a valid employment exchange card registered along the Konkan Railway route — that means Raigad, Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri districts of Maharashtra, the State of Goa, and Uttara Kannada, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts of Karnataka
- Non-land-loser candidates domiciled in Maharashtra, Goa or Karnataka but without an employment exchange registration
- KRCL employees who have completed at least three years of regular service
The third and fourth look similar but they are not the same thing, and the difference decides your position in the queue. Panels are prepared in this order of preference: land loser candidates first, then employment-exchange registered candidates along the Konkan Railway route, and finally domiciled candidates and eligible KRCL employees. The second and third panels are operated only after the land loser panel is exhausted. You must declare your status — land loser, employment exchange or domicile — at the time of applying. And there is one more hard restriction you must not overlook: the notification states that recruitment to erstwhile Group-D posts is limited to land loser candidates only. That means all 57 Track Maintainer posts — 28% of this recruitment — are closed to everyone except land losers. If you are not a land loser, look at the remaining 144 posts instead.
Eligibility Criteria — KRCL Recruitment 2026
Educational Qualification

A degree in the relevant engineering discipline is also acceptable in place of a diploma wherever a diploma is prescribed. Candidates with an ITI certificate should target Assistant Loco Pilot, ESTM-III and Technician-III, while graduates from any stream can go for Station Master, Section Controller, Commercial Supervisor and Goods Train Manager.
Age Limit
Age is reckoned as on 1 August 2026, which is different from the application dates.
| Post Group | Age Limit |
|---|---|
| Group ‘C’ posts (11 posts) | 18 to 36 years |
| Erstwhile Group ‘D’ — Track Maintainer | 18 to 45 years |
🎂 Not sure if you meet the age criteria? Use our free Age Calculator for Government Exams to find your exact age on the cut-off date and instantly check your eligibility — including SC / ST / OBC / PwBD age relaxation. →
Age relaxation differs between the two groups, so read the right table.
For the 11 Group ‘C’ posts:
| Category | Relaxation |
|---|---|
| SC and ST | 5 years |
| OBC (NCL) | 3 years |
| PwBD (UR / OBC / SC-ST) | 10 / 13 / 15 years |
| Ex-Servicemen | 3, 6 or 8 years as applicable |
| Serving KRCL employees | Up to 40, 43 or 45 years by category |
For Track Maintainer (erstwhile Group ‘D’), the notification prints a much shorter list — there is no OBC-NCL, PwBD or KRCL-employee relaxation for this post:
| Category | Relaxation |
|---|---|
| SC and ST | 5 years (up to 50) |
| Ex-Servicemen | 3 or 8 years as applicable |
For ex-servicemen, the relaxation is calculated after deducting the length of military service from actual age.
Medical and Physical Standards
This is the section most candidates skip, and it disqualifies people after they have already paid and prepared. Different posts carry different medical standards.
| Medical Standard | Posts |
|---|---|
| A-1 | Assistant Loco Pilot |
| A-2 | Section Controller, Station Master, Goods Train Manager |
| A-3 | Junior Engineer (Civil), Junior Engineer (Mechanical), Senior Section Engineer (S&T), Senior Section Engineer (Mechanical), Track Maintainer |
| B-1 | ESTM-III, Technician-III |
| C-1 | Commercial Supervisor |
- A-1: distant vision 6/6 in both eyes without glasses, with a fogging test, plus colour, binocular, field, night and mesopic vision tests
- A-2: distant vision 6/9 in both eyes without glasses
- Minimum height: 152 cm for male and 150 cm for female candidates, relaxable in prescribed cases
- Candidates who have undergone Lasik surgery or any other surgical procedure to correct refractive error are NOT eligible for posts under standards A-1, A-2, A-3 and B-1 — which covers every post here except Commercial Supervisor
- Contact lenses are not allowed for any of the posts notified
If you wear spectacles, check the table above before you pay the fee — the vision bars reach much further than just Assistant Loco Pilot.
What is the Salary for KRCL Recruitment 2026 Posts?
The pay follows the 7th Central Pay Commission pay matrix, and the notification states the initial pay for each level clearly.
- Senior Section Engineer (S&T and Mechanical): Level 7, initial pay ₹44,900
- Junior Engineer, Station Master, Section Controller, Commercial Supervisor: Level 6, initial pay ₹35,400
- Goods Train Manager: Level 5, initial pay ₹29,200
- Assistant Loco Pilot, Technician-III, ESTM-III: Level 2, initial pay ₹19,900
- Track Maintainer: Level 1, initial pay ₹18,000
Initial pay across the recruitment ranges from ₹18,000 at Level 1 to ₹44,900 at Level 7, before allowances.
One more requirement at document verification: candidates already serving in a Central or State Government department, the Railways or a PSU must produce a No Objection Certificate from their employer, failing which their candidature is cancelled.
The notification does not print any allowance amounts or a CTC figure, so treat the figures above as initial pay only. A stipend applies during the training period, after which the regular pay level takes effect.
What is the Selection Process for KRCL Recruitment 2026?
Selection is entirely through a Computer Based Test — there is no interview and no walk-in for any post. The stages after the CBT differ by post group.
Track A: Section Controller, Station Master and Assistant Loco Pilot
CBT, followed by a Computer Based Aptitude Test, then document verification and medical examination. Candidates are called for the aptitude test at eight times the number of vacancies. Final merit is 70% CBT and 30% aptitude test.
Track B: Engineering and Supervisory Posts
For both Senior Section Engineer posts, both Junior Engineer posts, Goods Train Manager, Commercial Supervisor, Technician-III and ESTM-III, the process is CBT followed by document verification and medical examination. Merit is decided on the CBT score alone.
Track C: Track Maintainer
CBT, then document verification at five times the vacancies, then a Physical Efficiency Test at three times the vacancies. The PET is qualifying in nature but the standards are demanding: male candidates must carry 35 kg over 100 metres in 2 minutes in one chance without putting the weight down, then run 1000 metres in 4 minutes 15 seconds. For female candidates it is 20 kg over 100 metres in 2 minutes, then 1000 metres in 5 minutes 40 seconds. Failing the weight-carrying stage eliminates you on the spot.
The CBT carries negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer. The notification is not fully consistent about the marks per question — the paper headings say 3 marks per question for most exam groups and 1 mark for Technician-III (Mechanical), while the section-wise marks printed alongside total 100 marks over 100 questions. Either way, wrong answers cost you real marks, so avoid blind guessing. Qualifying marks are 50% for UR and EWS and 40% for OBC-NCL, SC and ST in Group C posts, with 40% and 30% respectively for Group D, and a 2% relaxation for PwBD candidates. The CBT is conducted in five languages — English, Hindi, Marathi, Konkani and Kannada — while the aptitude test is in English and Hindi only.
