Educational Qualification

PwD age relaxation and the reserved PwD seat apply only to candidates with a degree of disability of 40% and above, supported by a certificate in the prescribed Government of India format from a Medical Board or competent medical authority stating the nature and percentage of disability.
Internal MECL candidates may get up to 1 year age relaxation, which needs only the approval of the CMD, whose decision is final. Separately, an internal candidate is considered alongside outside candidates only if he or she has served in the immediately lower scale for at least one year on the cut-off date — and in that case no application fee is payable. Employees are also entitled to a two-wheeler or four-wheeler vehicle loan and a house building advance as per company guidelines. One condition you must accept before applying: there is a service bond of ₹1.8 lakh requiring you to serve MECL for a minimum of 36 months from joining. A retention amount of ₹5,000 per month is deducted from salary against this bond and refunded in full, without interest, once you complete 36 months. If you leave before 36 months, the amount deducted till then is forfeited and you must additionally deposit the balance of the ₹1.8 lakh bond after that forfeited amount is adjusted. If an employee dies during the bond period, the deducted amount is refunded to the nominee without interest.
What is the Selection Process for MECL Executive Trainee 2026?
There is no MECL written examination and no separate personal interview. The process is short and document-driven.
Stage 1: Merit List on ESE 2024 Score
Applicant lists are prepared category-wise in decreasing order of marks scored out of 1200 in the UPSC Engineering Services Examination 2024 for the relevant discipline, and shortlisted as per MECL Recruitment Rules.
Stage 2: Tie-Breaking
If two candidates have identical ESE 2024 totals, the tie is broken by seniority in age first — the older candidate as per the Matriculation date of birth ranks higher. If it still persists, the candidate with the higher aggregate percentage in the engineering degree ranks higher.
Stage 3: Document Verification
Shortlisted candidates must bring the original valid UPSC ESE 2024 result or score card with marks out of 1200 clearly visible, plus all other documents. Important: the category you filled for UPSC ESE 2024 is not binding on MECL. You must produce a fresh category certificate in the prescribed Government of India format issued in the current financial year, and no certificate issued after the closing date is entertained. OBC (NCL) candidates must also file a separate non-creamy-layer declaration — OBC candidates in the creamy layer get no OBC concession and must apply as UR. EWS candidates need an Income and Asset Certificate, also issued in the current financial year.
Stage 4: Medical Fitness and Antecedent Verification
Appointment is subject to being declared medically fit by a Government Medical Officer or CMO of a Government hospital, followed by character and antecedent verification. After joining you undergo one year of training, and probation runs for one year from the date of joining in the first instance, extendable by the Appointing Authority by a maximum of one further year. During probation you can be discharged without notice and without any reason being assigned, and confirmation is not automatic — it takes effect only when a written order is issued to you.
