MPESB Subedar Steno and ASI Recruitment 2026: 655 MP Police Vacancies
The Madhya Pradesh Employees Selection Board (MPESB) has opened a big recruitment for the Madhya Pradesh Police — 655 vacancies of Subedar (Ministerial) Stenographer and Assistant Sub Inspector (Ministerial). If you have passed 12th and hold a CPCT certificate with Hindi typing, this is one of the largest openings of the year for government jobs in Madhya Pradesh. The Subedar (Steno) pay scale starts at ₹36,200 and the ASI scale at ₹19,500, and every post here is a regular Class III state government job.
The online form opens on 24 September 2026 and closes at midnight on 8 October 2026, and the first-phase online exam starts from 3 November 2026. So you get about two weeks to apply and roughly a month to prepare. This article walks you through the post-wise vacancies, the qualification each post needs, age limits, fees, the two-phase selection plan, and the conditions that quietly cost candidates their form. Read it fully and keep visiting GovtJobsAlert.in so you never miss an update.
MP Police Subedar and ASI Recruitment 2026: Key Highlights
MPESB, which sits at Chayan Bhawan in Bhopal, conducts the selection examinations for most Madhya Pradesh government departments. This particular examination is being held for the Police Headquarters, Home (Police) Department, and the people selected will work in the ministerial (desk) wing of the state police — the General Branch, the Special Branch, field units and the Crime Investigation Department. Police and other state government jobs of this size always draw heavy competition, so it pays to start early.

How Many Vacancies Are in MPESB Subedar and ASI Recruitment 2026?
The reservation split is not the same for every post code, so read the row for the post you are actually applying to.
| Post (Code) | Category-wise Vacancies | Total |
|---|---|---|
| Subedar Steno, General Branch (01) | UR 32 / SC 20 / ST 26 / OBC 18 / EWS 12 | 125 |
| Subedar Steno, Special Branch (02) | UR 3 / SC 2 / ST 2 / OBC 2 / EWS 0 | 10 |
| ASI Ministerial, General Branch (03) | UR 27 / SC 17 / ST 20 / OBC 14 / EWS 9 | 100 |
| ASI Ministerial, Field Unit (04) | UR 101 / SC 59 / ST 74 / OBC 51 / EWS 37 | 370 |
| ASI Ministerial, Special Branch (05) | UR 8 / SC 3 / ST 6 / OBC 3 / EWS 2 | 25 |
| ASI Ministerial, CID (06) | UR 8 / SC 3 / ST 6 / OBC 3 / EWS 2 | 25 |
Two things in this table deserve a careful read. First, the Special Branch Subedar post carries no EWS seat at all, so an EWS candidate eyeing post code 02 has nothing to apply against there. Second, the MPESB table shows only 87% of the seats under the normal categories; the remaining 13% is shown separately as notional unreserved / provisional OBC because of the pending OBC court matter. That 13% block is already inside each 100% total — for post code 01, 108 + 17 = 125 — so the category figures alone will never add up to the total.
| Horizontal Reservation | Seats |
|---|---|
| Female (35%) | 231 |
| Ex-Servicemen (10%) | 67 |
| Open (no horizontal claim) | 357 |
Horizontal reservation works inside the vertical totals, and unfilled reserved horizontal seats are not carried forward to another year.
What Is the Eligibility for MPESB Subedar and ASI Recruitment 2026?
Educational Qualification
Both posts are open to 12th pass candidates, but the extra certificates differ. CPCT with the Hindi typing certificate is compulsory for both — without it your form is simply not eligible.
| Post | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Subedar (Ministerial) Stenographer | Higher Secondary (10+2) pass; Hindi Shorthand at 100 words per minute from a recognised board, polytechnic or ITI; CPCT passed with Hindi typing certificate |
| Assistant Sub Inspector (Ministerial) | Higher Secondary (10+2) pass from a recognised board; CPCT passed with Hindi typing certificate |
| Computer requirement (both posts) | Any one of: DOEACC Diploma level, one-year COPA certificate from a government recognised ITI, Modern Office Management course, or a computer diploma from a UGC recognised institute |
| ASI extra route | An Engineering Degree, MCA, BCA, M.Sc. (Computer Science or IT) or an AICTE approved Polytechnic Diploma also satisfies the ASI computer requirement |
Age Limit
Age is counted as on 8 October 2026. The rule book prints no minimum age — it only says you must have attained the prescribed age by that date.
| Category (as on 08.10.2026) | Maximum Age |
|---|---|
| Male, Unreserved or EWS, MP domicile | 33 years |
| All candidates domiciled outside MP (male or female) | 33 years |
| Female, all categories, MP domicile | 38 years |
| Male, SC / ST / OBC, MP domicile | 38 years |
| Male government, corporation, board or Nagar Sainik employee | 38 years |
| Male, inter-caste marriage incentive scheme | 38 years |
| Female, inter-caste marriage incentive scheme | 43 years |
| Male, Unreserved, Vikram Award winner | 38 years |
| Male, reserved category, Vikram Award winner | 43 years |
| Female, all categories, Vikram Award winner | 43 years |
🎂 Not sure if you meet the age criteria? Use our free Age Calculator for Government Exams to find your exact age on the cut-off date and instantly check your eligibility — including any age relaxation you qualify for. →
Ex-servicemen may deduct their full defence service from their present age, and retrenched government staff up to seven years of earlier temporary service — in both cases the age after deduction must not cross the upper limit by more than three years. Among the incentive relaxations only the most beneficial one applies, and it adds to the general relaxation; every relaxation needs a Madhya Pradesh domicile certificate.
Physical and Medical Standards
| Standard | Male | Female |
|---|---|---|
| Height (both posts) | 162 cm | 152 cm |
| Chest measurement | Not applicable | Not applicable |
| Height relaxation | None at any stage | None at any stage |
| Medical Check | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Vision without glasses | At least 6/9 in one eye and 6/12 in the other |
| Colour vision | Must pass the colour plate test |
| Knock-knee, flat foot, any deformity | Not accepted |
| Conduct of the test | Videographed, with a nominated gazetted police officer present at every stage |
| If you are declared unfit | You may apply in your unit for a re-test by the Divisional Medical Board; the State Medical Board is used only when the District and Divisional board opinions differ, and only the department refers it |
What Is the Salary and Pay Scale for MPESB Subedar and ASI 2026?
| Post | Pay Scale | Group |
|---|---|---|
| Subedar (Ministerial) Stenographer | ₹36,200 – ₹1,14,800 | Class III |
| Assistant Sub Inspector (Ministerial) | ₹19,500 – ₹62,000 | Class III |
Do keep one thing in mind before you plan your budget. Under the General Administration Department circular dated 12 December 2019, a newly appointed candidate is paid a stipend of 70% of the pay-scale minimum in the first year, 80% in the second and 90% in the third year; the full scale starts after that.
For a Subedar (Steno), 70% of the ₹36,200 minimum works out to about ₹25,340 a month in the first year, rising each year until the full scale applies.
Other allowances sanctioned by the state government from time to time are paid on top. Anyone appointed on or after 1 January 2005 comes under the contributory pension scheme, not the old pension scheme.
What Is the Selection Process for MP Police Subedar and ASI 2026?
| Stage | Detail |
|---|---|
| Phase 1 | Online written examination, objective MCQs in Hindi |
| Cut-off percentile | Seven times the advertised posts per vertical category are called forward |
| Phase 2 | Verification of your original documents and the practical (shorthand or typing) examination |
| Physical standard | Height measurement |
| Medical | Examination by the District Medical Board |
| Practical marks | 100 marks for both posts, minimum 30 marks to qualify |
| Final merit | Written examination marks plus practical examination marks |
| Phase 1 Exam Pattern | Detail |
|---|---|
| Duration and questions | 2 hours, 100 questions |
| Maximum marks | 100 (+1 for every correct answer) |
| Wrong or unattempted | Nothing is deducted |
| General Knowledge and Reasoning | 40 marks |
| Intellectual Ability and Mental Aptitude | 30 marks |
| Science and Simple Arithmetic | 30 marks |
The cut-off percentile is dynamic — it is not fixed before the exam, everyone scoring exactly at the cut-off is called even if the count crosses seven times, and it is not worked out separately for horizontal categories. In Phase 2 a Subedar (Steno) candidate faces two five-minute Hindi shorthand dictations at 100 words per minute plus transcription typing, while an ASI candidate types two Hindi paragraphs of 600 words in 30 minutes each. Marks are cut for extra, missing or wrongly spaced characters, and only typed matter is evaluated — pen corrections are not accepted. Plan your preparation with the exam syllabus pages alongside daily typing drills.
What Conditions Can Cost You the MPESB Subedar or ASI Post 2026?
| Condition | What it means for you |
|---|---|
| Outside MP | Candidates who are not permanent MP domiciles can apply only against unreserved seats, get no reservation or age relaxation, and their age must not cross 33 years |
| Domicile proof | Without an MP domicile certificate no reservation benefit of any kind will be given |
| Late payment | An application whose fee is not paid inside the given window will not be accepted |
| After the correction window | No change of any kind in the form is allowed once the correction window closes |
| Paramilitary and contract staff | CRPF, BSF, ITBP and similar force members get no age relaxation, and Shiksha Karmi, Panchayat Karmi and other contract or honorarium staff get none either |
| Serving government staff | Written prior permission of your present appointing authority must be produced when your documents are checked |
| Dismissed on disciplinary grounds | Candidates declared unfit or removed on disciplinary grounds from government, semi-government or defence service are not eligible for this recruitment at all; those discharged from the forces for misconduct or inefficiency also lose ex-servicemen benefits |
| More than two children | A candidate with more than two living children, one of whom was born on or after 26 January 2001, is not eligible for appointment; a multiple birth after one living child is exempted |
| Provisional eligibility | ESB does not verify certificates while you apply; the department checks them at appointment, so clearing the exam is no guarantee |
| Banned items | Mobiles, calculators, log tables and similar items are strictly prohibited inside the exam hall |
| Bonus marks | Eight listed categories, such as ex-servicemen and NCC ‘C’ certificate holders, get an extra 5% of the marks they score in the written exam |

| 2 | Apply through an authorised MPOnline kiosk, or sign in as a registered citizen user and save the portal fee |
| 3 | Fill one single form for both posts, give four examination city preferences, and mark your preference against every post you are eligible for — a post you leave unmarked is dropped from your result even if your percentile is high |
| 4 | Upload a recent colour photograph on a white background with the date and your name, your signature, two lines in your own handwriting, and scans of your 8th, 10th or 12th marksheet as date-of-birth proof plus your caste, EWS or bonus certificate where claimed — without these the form is not accepted |
