Permanent posts run till 65 years of age, after two years’ probation and satisfactory confirmation. Contract posts run for 5 years. For the two Chair posts the contract is extendable at the discretion of the University. Notifications 22 and 23 say only “contract basis for 5 years”.
What is the Eligibility for NLSIU Recruitment 2026?
Educational Qualification
Everyone needs a Master’s Degree with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point scale), from a recognised university or institution. The extra NET condition applies only to the two permanent posts.

NET exemptions on the permanent posts:
- Ph.D holders may be exempted. If you registered for the Ph.D before 11 July 2009, five conditions apply: degree awarded in regular mode, thesis checked by at least two external examiners, an open viva voce held, two research papers published from the Ph.D work (at least one in a refereed journal), and two papers from it presented at UGC, ICSSR, CSIR or similar sponsored conferences or seminars.
- Candidates whose Master’s subject has no NET, SLET or SET conducted by UGC, CSIR or a similar accredited test are also exempt.
Marks relaxation: a 5% relaxation may be provided at graduate and Master’s level to SC, ST and Differently-abled candidates. The same 5% may be provided to Ph.D holders who finished their Master’s before 19 September 1991. The 55% bar and the 5% relaxation are based on qualifying marks only, without any grace marks. The qualification must come from a recognised university or institution, as for a post graduate government job.
Subjects: Law posts cover all major law subjects, from Contracts, Property and Constitutional Law to Taxation, IPR and International Trade Law. Humanities and Social Sciences posts cover Economics, Sociology, Political Science and History. These lists are indicative.
Age Limit
The six notifications do not state any minimum or maximum age. Keep your age proof ready, because the form asks you to upload certificates for age, qualifications and experience.
