Railway Sports Quota Recruitment 2026: 64 Western Railway Vacancies, 10th Pass Eligible
The Railway Recruitment Cell of Western Railway has opened online applications for 64 sports quota vacancies for the year 2026-27. If you have won a medal or represented your state or country in a recognised championship and you are still playing actively, this is one of the few railway jobs where the selection the notification prescribes turns on your playing record rather than on marks in a written paper. Openings run from 10th pass level right up to graduate level, so the door is genuinely open at every stage of schooling.
Applications open on 1 September 2026 at 10:00 hrs and close on 30 September 2026 at 18:00 hrs. Before you pay, read the sports norms for the exact level you are targeting, because they are strict and differ sharply between the three levels. In this guide from GovtJobsAlert.in we have laid out the vacancies, eligibility, fee, marks distribution and every condition that can quietly cost you the job.

How Many RRC WR Sports Quota Vacancies 2026?
The vacancies are spread over three pay levels. The notification counts them as 21 in Group C and 43 in the erstwhile Group D, which together make the full 64.
| Pay Level | Group | Vacancies |
|---|---|---|
| Level 5/4 (7th CPC) | Group C | 5 |
| Level 3/2 (7th CPC) | Group C | 16 |
| Level 1 (7th CPC) | Erstwhile Group D | 43 |
| Total | — | 64 |
Every vacancy is tied to a named discipline, event and position within that discipline.
| Pay Level | Disciplines Covered |
|---|---|
| Level 5/4 | Athletics (Men), Gymnastics (Men), Hockey (Women), Weightlifting (Men), Wrestling Free Style (Men) — one seat each |
| Level 3/2 | Athletics, Cricket, Diving, Football, Gymnastics, Hockey, Powerlifting, Swimming, Weightlifting and Wrestling, across thirteen discipline rows |
| Level 1 | Athletics, Ball Badminton, Basketball, Boxing, Body Building, Cycling, Hockey, Handball, Kho-Kho, Powerlifting, Swimming, Volleyball, Water Polo and Weightlifting, across nineteen discipline rows |
You can be considered only in the exact event, position and game advertised for which you hold recognised norms, so match your certificate to the notification line by line. Two further rules decide your pay later.
| Rule | What it means for you |
|---|---|
| Level 5/4 downgrade | If no valid applications arrive for the five Level 5/4 posts, those five are downgraded to Level 3/2 and filled from the same advertised disciplines. Unfilled Level 5/4 seats in a discipline are likewise filled at Level 3/2 from that discipline |
| Applying below your norms | If you hold Level 5/4 norms but apply against Level 3/2 you are considered only in Level 3/2, and at the trial you must sign an undertaking never to claim higher pay on the strength of a sports achievement earned before joining the Railways |
Who is Eligible for Railway Sports Quota 2026?
Educational Qualification
You must already hold the qualification on the date the application closes.
| Pay Level | Minimum Qualification |
|---|---|
| Level 5/4 | Graduate in any discipline from a recognised University |
| Level 3/2 | Passed 12th (+2 stage) or its equivalent; or Matriculation plus Course Completed Act Apprenticeship; or Matriculation plus an ITI approved by NCVT or SCVT |
| Level 1 | 10th Pass from a recognised Board, or ITI, or equivalent, or a National Apprenticeship Certificate granted by NCVT |
| If posted as Clerk-cum-Typist | Must clear a typing proficiency test of 30 words per minute in English or 25 in Hindi within four years of appointment; until then the appointment stays provisional |
This is a real opening for 10th pass candidates and equally for graduates, because the sports norm, not the degree, is the hard part.
Sports Achievement Norms
Only sportspersons who earned their norms in a championship held between 1 April 2024 and 27 August 2026, and who are still active, may apply. The concluding day of the event is what counts for validity.
| Pay Level | Minimum Sports Norms Required |
|---|---|
| Level 5/4 | Represented India in the Olympic Games (Senior); or at least 3rd position in World Cup, World Championships, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, Youth Olympics, Champions Trophy in Hockey or Thomas and Uber Cup in Badminton |
| Level 3/2 | Represented India in World Cup, World Championships, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, Youth Olympics, Champions Trophy in Hockey or Thomas and Uber Cup in Badminton; or 3rd position in Commonwealth or Asian Championship, SAF Games, USIC or World University Games; or 3rd position in Senior, Youth or Junior National Championships or National Games; or 3rd in All India Inter University; or 1st in Federation Cup (Senior) |
| Level 1 | Represented in Commonwealth or Asian Championship, SAF Games, USIC or World University Games; or 3rd position in Federation Cup (Senior); or represented a State with at least 8th position in Senior National Championships, except in Marathon and Cross Country |
| Extra routes (clause 3.4) | At Level 5/4, an Athletics gold in the Open National Championship (Senior), the Inter State Athletics Championship (Senior) or the Asian Championship (Senior) may also be considered. At Level 3/2, an Athletics medal in the National Inter State Senior Championship, a Hockey (Men) semi-finalist in the Senior Nationals or a four-or-more-nation international, a Hockey (Women) 2nd place in a four-or-more-nation international, or a cricketer who played an All India Inter-Zonal or a Challenger Trophy match. In Boxing, a Youth-category international achievement from 25.09.2016 counts in place of Junior |
| Certificate cut-off dates (clause 3.4) | These dates run BOTH ways, so check yours. Body Building (after 31/12/2021), Handball (on or after 05.09.2023), Volleyball Women (after 02/01/2017) and Powerlifting (after 03/10/2017) will NOT consider federation or affiliated-unit certificates issued after those dates, though Association of Indian Universities and international federation certificates stay permissible. Ball Badminton (after 17/12/2025) and Wrestling (after 10.03.2025) go the other way — the notification says federation certificates issued after those dates WILL be considered. Weightlifting uses the updated bodyweight categories from 01/06/2025 |
Read clause 3.4 for your own game before you pay — Athletics, Ball Badminton, Body Building, Boxing, Cricket, Handball, Hockey, Volleyball, Powerlifting, Weightlifting and Wrestling all carry one.
RRC WR Sports Quota Age Limit 2026: No Relaxation
| Detail | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Minimum Age | 18 years as on 01/01/2027 |
| Maximum Age | 25 years as on 01/01/2027 |
| Date of Birth Window | Born between 01/01/2002 and 01/01/2009, both days inclusive |
🎂 Not sure if you meet the age criteria? Use our free Age Calculator for Government Exams to find your exact age on the cut-off date and check whether you are within the age limit. →
Two things make this notice unusual, and both catch people out. First, it grants no age relaxation to anybody — 25 on 1 January 2027 is a hard ceiling. Second, there is no reservation for SC, ST, OBC, EWS, PwBD or Ex-Servicemen in this recruitment. Category certificates buy no seat and no extra years here. SC, ST, Ex-Servicemen, Persons with Disability and women use them only to claim the reduced fee, while OBC and EWS candidates get neither reservation nor a fee concession and must still upload and produce theirs. Work out your exact age on the cut-off date, because being over-aged or under-aged, or filling the date of birth wrongly, is a listed ground for rejection.
What is the Salary for RRC WR Sports Quota Posts 2026?
Pay is fixed by the 7th CPC level of the post you are selected against, and the notification expresses it as a level and a grade pay rather than as a monthly salary.
| Pay Level | Grade Pay |
|---|---|
| Level 5/4 (7th CPC) | Rs. 2800 and Rs. 2400 |
| Level 3/2 (7th CPC) | Rs. 2000 and Rs. 1900 |
| Level 1 (7th CPC) | Rs. 1800 |
Here is everything the notification actually commits to on money and service conditions.
- Starting pay: the minimum pay of your level, plus the allowances admissible at that time
- During training: only the applicable stipend is paid, not full pay
- Before joining: you may have to give a security deposit and execute an indemnity bond
- On appointment: a Service Bond of five years must be submitted
The notification prints no rupee basic pay figure anywhere — only the levels and grade pay in the table above — so we are not quoting an in-hand range for these posts.
One further liability travels with the pay. You are posted anywhere on Western Railway and, in the exigencies of service, can be transferred to another department, division, railway or project in or outside India.
RRC WR Sports Quota Selection Process 2026 — Is There an Exam?
The notification does not prescribe any examination stage for this recruitment. Everything turns on the trial and on the certificates you can prove.
| Stage | Detail |
|---|---|
| Selection Trial | All eligible candidates are called; you must score 25 or more out of 40 for game skill, physical fitness and coach’s observation to be declared FIT |
| Assessment | FIT candidates are then assessed by the Recruitment Committee out of 100 marks |
| Document Verification | Originals of date of birth, educational qualification and sports achievement must be produced on the day of the trial |
| Medical Fitness Test | Conducted by the Railway Administration for the post allotted |
| Final verification | Educational and community certificates and your antecedents and character are verified before appointment |
| Assessment Component | Maximum Marks |
|---|---|
| Recognised sports achievements | 50 |
| Game skill, physical fitness and coach’s observation | 40 |
| Educational qualification | 10 |
| Aggregate | 100 |
| Pay Level | Minimum Qualifying Marks |
|---|---|
| Level 5/4 | 70 |
| Level 3/2 | 65 |
| Level 1 | 60 |
Anyone declared NOT FIT by the Trial Committee is not assessed further, so those 40 trial marks are the real gate. Appointment is offered purely on merit, and where two sportspersons score the same, the younger candidate is preferred. RRC also reserves the right to add later changes to these terms, so check the website before your trial date.

Check your discipline, your event and your certificate date against the notification today, apply well before 30 September 2026 so a failed payment on the last evening cannot cost you the chance, and keep watching GovtJobsAlert.in and our government jobs section for the trial schedule.
